Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: anyone using jumper for your baby?

Hi I have just bought a jumper for my daughter as I put her in one at a baby expo and she loved it. But I should have gotten it sooner. The only reason I didnt is that the jolly jumper was promoted as bad as it is supposed to cause hip problems...but i think that as long as it is only for a short time it shouldnt be a problem. Like i said i regret not getting it sooner for my daughter as she loves it...

Hi my daughter was the same but i found that once i started flash cards and slideshows teaching her to read, she started taking more interest in the books. Now when i put her on the floor with her toys she will go straight to the books and sit there for ages just turning the pages and pointing at the pictures and words. I dont know if this is just a coincidence or not, maybe she has just gotten older, although she still puts everything else in her mouth.
I made her, her own books before when she was eating them, by laminating the pages and then tying the pages together with very short ribbon. I put words and pictures of familiar things on the pages before hand and she loved them.
Best of luck.

Hey Rose08
I have just checked bilby.net and they have wiggle dvds and other dvds that have sign language caption plus the word appear on the screen, might be worth checking it out.
Also I have written to the ABC about starting our own Baby Signing Time and let them know that USA ha a how that is very successful, so fingers crossed that they consider doing this.
Kimba15
That would be great if ABC would do that...I'll keep my fingers crossed. I too have had experience with a 'tiny' bit of sign language. I worked in a nursing home...just as kitchen staff for a bit, and a lovely gentleman was there who had had a stroke and had to learn how to walk, speak etc...so he used sign language to communicate. I understand your point of view about learning the national sign language for my country as well as what nhockaday has to say about me just wanting to communicate. I have a lot to think about, but thank you for all your research and feedback, and if you hear back from ABC let me know.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Anyone play foreign language CD while baby sleeps?

Hey everyone the website is www.sleeplearning.com Like i said i am not sure if it will work or not but for the english to spanish one it says: Speak SPANISH within 30 days. No Pens, No Paper, No Homework, No Memorising. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can rapidly learn SPANISH or ANY NEW language. So the best thing i can suggest is to take a look at the website and see what you think yourself...the only problem is that you will never really know if it works til you do it yourself. It will probably be about 2 more weeks til i recieve the product as i live in Australia but i will definitely post back here and let you all know how I go.

I always try and make mealtimes fun and even let her play with her food herself so that she can eat. I dont worry about mess she makes or anything and yet she just turns her head or starts waving her arms around even though she hasnt had any. I try with all sorts of food, i try it warm, cool, with breastmilk and still she wont eat... It just frustrates me. I have a routine for her feeds. I used to lie in bed with her in mornings being too tired to get up and she wouldnt eat when i finally got up. so i presumed she was too tired, then i started getting up in the morning whenever she woke up and wouldnt go back to sleep. she started eating then and so i fed her lunch after her morning nap and tea after her arfternoon nap. With fruit snacks in between. This was a couple of weeks ago and it was working well. nothing has changed and yet now she wont eat anything.
My daughter isnt sick as ive had her checked up and she is happy and active but shes stopped sleeping too.
It is annoying when other parents tell me that i am neglecting her as they have children who will eat everything.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Beauty of Maths

That is cool. I learned some tricks but not like that. This is mine: when you multiply 11 by a two digit number eg. 12 you take the two digits add them together (to get 3) then put that number in the middle of the first two (132)...simple huh. 11 x 10 = 120 11 x 11 = 121 11 x 12 = 132 11 x 13 = 143 11 x 14 = 154 11 x 15 = 165 11 x 16 = 176, etc...

Hi everyone, I have a beautiful 11month old daughter who still refuses to eat 3 meals a day. She is still breastfed and I try and try to get her to eat but I cant. Somedays are really good and she will eat three decent meals and other days I will be lucky to get a couple of spoons in her. Does anyone else have/had this problem and if so what did you do? Or how long was it before your child would eat? I think her problem is that she is too tired but i feed her when she wakes up so that she isnt?? Thanks

Hi rose08,
BST and ST are American Sign language so therefore is not compatible with AUSLAN. It really depends on which one you want to teach. Some really good Australian ones are tiny talk or Australian baby hands.
Hope this helps
Have you had experience with any of these Australian programs? What are they like? Are they like the baby signing time with music? From what i read on the site they appear to be more for the parent, but not sure as there are no reviews or previews.

Just looking to buy the pimsleur cds to learn spanish. Has anyone used these to learn a language? and how well did you find they worked?
I would like feedback from anyone who has used them and how long it took to learn the language. Also how many people who used them were not bilingual?
Thanks

Thanks Kimba15, I was wondering about that. But i'm not sure which i want her to learn. I like the ASL as it is one handed which i think would be easier for to learn but i would like her to know AUSLAN. Are you teaching AUSLAN and how are you finding it for your child to learn?
I was mainly wanting her to learn sign language as a way for her to communicate with me while she cant talk, but i guess it would be good for her to learn AUSLAN so that she can communicate with people here in australia.
Its good to know that their are Australian ones out there as i can only mainly find american ones.
