I watched the video on their web site. It's quite interesting.

However, the charater is not simplified Chinese. Triditional Chinese is only used in Taiwan, I don't know about HK.  In Mandland China, they use simplified Chinese.

2  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: ** D.I.Y. your own flash card NOW !!! 244 words, Free ** on: May 14, 2009, 07:53:07 AM
Hi Babydad,

You have added 244 words, however, I could see a few words only on your web site when I clicked on Card Set One.( Totally there are 14 days.)

Could you tell me how to have access to the other words?

Cheers!

Curly

7  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Strongly recommand a great book to everyone! on: May 09, 2009, 12:54:05 PM
For those of you who have read the book, which tips are you going to implement? What did you find interesting and is there something you disagree with? I'm printing a second lot of chapters now....

I haven't done the English ebook yet, and I found the content seems partly different from the Chinese version. (dunno why)

Anyway, if I am reading the English ebook, I would be interested in those chapters from XII to the end. It shows how the author educate his son properly, how to teach him to learn language, math, and reading, etc.

I don't agree with  feeding issue, he didn't allow his wife to feed Karl when he was hungry.

9  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Any good parenting book you can recommand? on: May 07, 2009, 06:09:37 AM
Let me start it first :

1. The Education of Karl Witte

By Karl Heinrich Gottfried Witte

2. Parenting Young Children (Helpful strategies based on systematic training for effective parenting (STEP) for parents of children under six)

By Don Dinkmeyer, Sr. & Gary D. McKay & James S. Dinkmeyer

3. Boundaries with kids

By Cloud/ Townsend (on the waiting list)

4. How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk  ( I heard it's pretty good, it's on my waiting list.)

Do you have any good parenting book you want to recommand? Thank you:P

Hi Tina,

Just select some chapters to read whichever part you are concerned when you have any time. I can understand how busy you will be with your kids. Ask for help from your partner or parents or friends  if you really need it. Don't worry about the age, I believe kids before 6 are all genius. They all have a lot of potential. Why not take the great chance and offer them the best?

If this book is not interesting to you, you can try to find some other books to read or talk to other mums. We can always learn experience from others. I found this web site offers great info for my baby.

I also bought a copy in mandarin. Anyone who can understand Mandarin, I would suggest you to get a copy cause it seems easier to understand compare to the original one.

I selected and skipped some chapters when I was reading this book. (Some chapters seem insignificant to me. ) However, it’s still a very interesting book.  You will find the way on how to raise a happy, well-educated child mostly resonates the ideas we are favouring nowadays. You can learn some ideas on how to homeschool your child, how to teach them multi-languages and how to teach them math, etc.

Hopefully it helps.:P
12  Parents' Lounge / Introduce Yourself / Re: Newbie & need a little help on: May 06, 2009, 03:29:54 AM
I know how you feel, I was totally lost the first time I log in.

This is the reply I received from Labby, I post it here, hopefully it helps:( I guess Labby won't mind:P)

I'm happy that you asked me that question, since this is one of the most important topics a parent new to teaching should know. It's quite easy to get a bit "overwhelmed" here, since everyone just seems so used to teaching their children.

I personally encourage you to have a read through of one of our websites: BrillBaby.  Here, we discuss everything you need to know about teaching your child, how to start, what to remember, and even a review of several different products to help you teach.  Although we at BrillKids also develop our own products, we would never pressure anyone into just buying them without knowing what they do, so please read through BrillBaby first so you can decide which teaching method and style is best for you and your baby. smile

To learn specifically about teaching babies how to read, please go here: http://www.brillbaby.com/teach-baby/reading.php

You'll learn about the two methods you can use to teach - the flash card method (which takes advantage of right brain learning capabilities of children) and the multisensory method (incredibly fun and very stimulating for baby!)  We've built all of our BrillKids learning systems to be able to use both methods, so you have more flexibility in your lessons.

I hope you enjoy your stay here, and if you have any further questions, I encourage you to write to us in the forum --- this way, a lot of other parents will be able to answer you from their own expert opinions, and you'll get more variations and experiences to help you through!

Happy teaching!

Lappy

(Thanks to Labby again)

The Education of Karl Witte

I would say this book is a "lost gem", it was written in the 17th Century but it's still quite fresh.

The only original copy has been stored in Harvard University, but I am lucky to dig it out online for free.  The author educated his son since he was born.

Here is the link:

http://www.archive.org/details/EducationOfKarlWitteThe

That's the brief introduction I found it on wiki:

Johann Heinrich Friedrich Karl Witte (born July 1, 1800 in Lochau; died March 6, 1883 in Halle) was a German jurist and Dante Alighieri scholar. He was the son of a pastor who encouraged a fairly intense program of learning. When Karl Witte was nine he spoke five languages and at fourteen was certified for a doctorate at the University of Leipzig.[1] His father wrote a book about educating his child.[2] In his own right be began his reputation as a Dante scholar in 1823

15  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Is there anyone know where I can buy fridge magnets and flashcard ? on: May 01, 2009, 05:43:53 AM
Thank you everyone!

I just bought some flashcards and foam alphabets in toys r us. Flashcards and foam alphabets in toys r us are not expensive. I bought them AU$3-5 each. They sell alphabets magnets & foam letters as well.

Hopefully it helps to other parents.
