Congratulations and believe me it will only get better by the day. By the time your daughter turns 2, she will be reading almost at grade 2 levels and will be a voracious reader. Dont push her math responses if it doesn't seem to work as quickly though. I know my daughter has responded as much to LR as she has not to LM. So dont worry if she doesn't seem to be responding to LM as quickly.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Early Learning Affecting Personality?
|

Queriquita I agree with tanikit. Early learning has no adverse or advantageous effects on the children - at least not in the immediate short term. My daughter started reading before she was 1 and she is hitting 4 in just a few days. She is way ahead of her peers at school (albeit she has joined school almost a year earlier than her peers). However, it is entirely dependent on the child's personality. She is neither ambitious nor competitve and the words and facts come to her so 'by the way' - she is innocent enough to think all her friends know details about the brain or the digestive system for instance.... its a matter of fact and never really makes them any different. I think the differences are more obvious when they grow (which would have happened anyway - only early education helps them get a solid foundation and makes them more confident). Having said that, every child really takes his or her own time in development. My daughter's motor skills really developed much later and she still is much more innocent than many children her age. It all depends on the overall environment you are able to give her... the best thing I can suggest though - the combination of a mother's constant attention coupled with early education is unbeatable. BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Little Reader method vs Doman Flash card-Which one is better?

Hi Cecilia Sorry for the delayed response. I only read about Brillkids and knew about it after my daughter turned 1. I assumed if I had started earlier, she would've gained much more. To be honest, I had downloaded tons of youtube clips of rhymes, songs and stories which I was using till then - including ABCs and 123s. I think the trick was music - it helps. I started LR when she was abour 1 1/2 and it was continuous since then for just a year. She had already picked up way before that. But to be honest, LR and YBCR made the difference. Do let me know if this is helpful.

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Discount voucher for LR Chinese content

@Kezia/Eddy... I know its been asked before. Any plans on possibly freeing up Chinese Content discount coupons with the rest on the Store? I have been meaning to purchase the content for so long now... its pitiful I am still only talking about it. I am still working on some Spanish lessons that I am completing for Portia. Do let me know if there is a chance this will be done.. if not it would be good to take advantage of the Tillywig Discount offer.

Cecilia - I am a mother of a 3 1/2 year old and I have tried ALL METHODS. I have used the Doman flashcards, the Tweedlewinks, the Doman Picture dictionary and LR. LR wins handsdown. The new animation is even better and makes it very attractive. My daughter of course still prefers the older real pictures version only because she has used it before. I am now going to take the Chinese content package. I can guarantee LR is better - though I am not writing off Doman flashcards. All these programs are based on the Doman studies... but LR has an edge.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: How to get them to read loud and clear
|
on: July 17, 2011, 02:15:34 AM

My daughter started reading really early as well - 1 1/2 - but when she used to read whole sentences, she used to use fillers as well. She is 3 1/2 now, and I can tell you, with age the clarity in their speech and reading styles gets better. I can remember seeing one of Felicity's (KL's daughter) videos reading very clearly and loud when she was a little less than 3. I guess it also differs from child to child and the regularity with which we make them do it. It all comes down to practice and a bit of growing up... I have to agree with fma001 - dont worry too much or ask her to start too early. Let her take her own time. That she has got here is brilliant in itself.
