Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: successful time-out

Wow...I have done time outs very successfully, but I was thinking of it as a punishment rather than a "cool down" period. I've always felt bad and mean even though it has worked.
I think this method will be much more effective and loving - thank you!

Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: taking pineapple during pregnancy

I've definitely eaten lots of pineapple during all three pregnancies and never went into early labour. This, of course, is just anecdotal evidence so I would probably not risk it if you haven't already been a pregnant pineapple eater!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Baby is getting bored quickly

It is very likely that she is learning it that quickly and is just annoyed that you're trying o teach her something she knows. I know that it can happen that quickly because, against Doman suggestion, I do test (though my girls find it like a fun game). I have shown both babies a set of cards, tested them right away (at which point they got them all correct), and then tested at a later date nd they'd retained the information.
Whatever you do, don't force it. Just move on to something she finds fun!

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: I'm sold!

She may really likes it! When a child really enjoys what she /he is doing they pick it up very fast!!
I've noticed that as well.I try to make all of our learning fun and the girls always excel. I have found, however, that with the eldest she picks it up REALLY quickly if it's something she's interested in. For example, she learned every species of North American owl in moments, it seemed, just because she loves owls so much. I'm really looking forward to proceeding with Little Reader and seeing how it works out. I wish I'd started earlier with my two year old!

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / I'm sold!

So, I finally got around to testing out the trial version of Little Reader. It seems that I need to find a way to put the full version into my budget because you'll never believe what happened...
I did both day one sessions with my youngest daughter and after session two decided to go back and do session one with no sound. The word "clap" came up - she said "clap!" and clapped her hands; "wave" came up - she waved; "duck came up - she said "duck". All of this after HALF a day using the program!!
I think it's safe to say I'm sold!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How do you teach two

I just get the little one involved in whatever the eldest is doing, even if she's just watching. Also, be sure to set aside a block of time each day just for teaching the younger of the two. Our oldest loves to teach her little sister things, so you might try that as well.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Ottawa Parents?

Hello everyone!
I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I would love to have an early learning playgroup/co-op in my home. Any chance we have any parents here from Ottawa, Ontario? *crossing my fingers*

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Virtual Co-Op

I have two little girls (24m and 10.5m) who I regularly do "homeschool" with. Although I have the best of intentions and intend to stick to my very well laid out plans, that doesn't always happen. I would love to have a group of homeschooling parents to regularly post, e-mail or blog about their homeschooling weeks with me. I think if I was involved in this type of group, it would hold me more accountable and keep me motivated making it more likely that I would execute my plans.
I typically stick to a "curriculum" for some units and well as trying to incorporate an overall theme every two weeks.
Anyone who might be interested please send me a personal message and we'll discuss some details!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Muzzy Help!
|
on: May 31, 2010, 02:34:59 AM

My daughter was born in China and we would really like to keep up her Chinese. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to trade me a copy of the Mandarin version of Muzzy in exchange for a copy of the English, Spanish, French, and/or German version?
Thanks in advance!
