BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: Online (download) or Offline (box set) copy??

Hi there, Yes, as you've read in our pages, BrillKids software may be installed on UP TO 2 computers, which means you have two times in which you can download and install the license key -- you may always find your software installer, license key, and content downloads in your Account Management page, and you can keep re-downloading these as needed. If you have installed two times already, and in the case of reformatting your computer, you can manage your activation records and simply delete the activation on your old computer to free up one activation slot. You can do this by following these instructions: 1. Sign in to your BrillKids Account: http://www.brillkids.com/2. Go your Account Management page by clicking on the Account link on the upper right hand corner of the page. Select "Software Systems" from the drop down menu. 3. You will then be able to access your Account Management page for your BrillKids software. Go to "STEP 2: LICENSE KEYS + ACTIVATION" and view your activation records for your chosen software. 4. Delete the activation record you wish to erase to free up one activation slot. After doing this, you may then reinstall your software on another computer. You may also keep on doing this as many times as you wish, provided that you have only 2 concurrent activated installations at any one time. Regarding your question about "download-only" vs "box set + download" products: Aside from getting physical (or in other words, "backup") CDs of the software installer and content files, the box set also comes with printed copies of the 2 eBooks ("Everything you need to know to teach your baby to Read" and "Teaching with Little Reader"). Note, though, that some of our products (like the Little Reader Deluxe Kit) are only available as box sets. As the name "box set + download" suggests, buying the box set still entitles you to accessing your software downloads from your Account Management page, so this way you have two methods of getting your BrillKids software. Of course, when getting box sets, you will need to pay an extra fee to cover shipping costs. I hope this answers your questions!

Hi sunshinebaby, It's great to hear that both your Sem 1 and 2 are working fine now! About your other question: LR (and LM too) should work fine in Vista -- does your User Account have "Administrator rights" in that particular computer? If you do, then you don't need to use "Run as Administrator" when opening LR. If you don't, perhaps you should ask your Administrator to give you Admin rights. As for the Startup Agent icon, you may re-launch it from your Start Menu. Just go to "All Programs" and look for the "BrillKids" folder; simply click on the "Startup Agent" item there and you should be able to see the icon in your task bar again. To ensure that this will always open up whenever you open Windows, right-click on the icon and check the "Start with Windows" item. Let me know how this works for you

Hello Joni, Thanks for your diagnostic report! Yes you may install LR in your D drive -- but you need to make sure that this particular drive is permanent, not a removable or external USB flash / HDD. Otherwise you might encounter problems running LR when it's installed in a removable location. About your sound problem, we noticed from your diagnostic report that you have a "Ran out of memory" error. This indicates that your computer is running low on resources while you were using LR, and this could affect your sound playback. Can you please check if you have any other programs / processes running in the background -- examples would be download programs, auto-updates for certain software, and maybe your anti-virus program. For now, kindly disable and close some of those that are unnecessary then try running LR again and see if it helps.

Hi Joni, Can you try our suggested solutions for your sound problem (refer to the post below): http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader-bug-reports/pronunciation-audio-getting-cut-off-please-see-here/If you have not yet upgraded to the latest version of Little Reader (v 1.6.340), kindly try doing so and see if it helps. To do this, just go to this page: http://www.brillkids.com/user/#software-systems/little-reader/indexGo to STEP 1: SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD and click on the download button to get your installer file (you may check the version number of the file you are about to download by referring to the "Download the latest version of Little Reader ( ### )" text link right below the download button). After downloading, open the file and double-click on "Little_Reader_install.exe" to begin the installation. If the problem persists, please send us a new diagnostic report: - From your START Menu, go to 'All Programs'
- Open the 'BrillKids' folder
- Open the 'Little Reader' folder
- Find and run the 'Diagnostic' tool
- A black window will display collecting your system information. Please be patient during this process. - Once the Diagnostic tool has finished, it will open up a window containing a file named "Little Reader_[DATE].zip"
- Attach this file to your reply
Regarding your Picture Editor problem, unfortunately we haven't gotten around to fixing it yet as the Picture Editor is not among our priorities right now. You may try uninstalling LR first before you install the latest version and see if you can get your PE to work properly again. Let me know how this works for you.

|

Hi cowboy2009, Yes, you can actually select many lesson folders at a time to mark them as "played" -- just click on the first item (Day 001 folder), press and hold your SHIFT key, and then click on the last item (Day 25 folder). You can then right-click and choose "Mark folder played", and all these folders would be instantly marked as played. Regarding the Playback Stats (playback history), currently the "mark played" feature simply just marks your played lessons, and thus it won't affect the playback count shown in your Playback Stats screen. As for your personal and downloaded categories, unfortunately the only way is to really open your import files one at a time. We do plan to add an import-by-batch feature in the next version of LR, though. Also, as I've previously mentioned, choosing to "Restore content to Default" during the Repair would change everything back to their default settings (this is similar to the "Restore Factory Settings" feature in cellphones and other gadgets), so you will also need to redo your customized settings. Lastly, for the delayed sound problem, kindly try the suggested solutions in this post: http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader-bug-reports/pronunciation-audio-getting-cut-off-please-see-here/* Try doing "4. Update your computer's codec" first and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't help, please try any of the other suggestions.

Hi sunshinebaby, Just to clarify, by "I didn't download the 1st semester" do you mean you already have the Semester 1 lessons in your second computer? If you don't have it, then kindly import Sem 1 as well. Does the "missing files/media" problem happen only in Semester 2, or does it happen in Semester 1 as well? Also, are you missing the media files for all your lessons, or only for specific words (or categories)? You can counter-check in your "My Documents \ BrillKids \ Little Reader \ Media Library" folder if you have the "missing" files to see if they're already in your computer but they are just not playing in Little Reader. Let me know if you are missing all your media files (or just the files that are missing) so I can send the files to you As for choosing "Run" instead of "Save" when downloading, this shouldn't cause the problem you are experiencing, although it would be better to actually save the file to your computer in case you'll need to use it again later on (this way you don't have to keep re-downloading these files, except when you need to upgrade to the latest software versions). When saving the file, some browsers will save it to your "My Documents \ Downloads" folder by default -- after completing the download you can just get the file from there and transfer it to a place in your computer where you want to keep it. Other browsers will prompt you about where to save the file -- you can then select your preferred location (say, just in your Desktop) and your file will be directly downloaded and saved there. If you noticed, you have an "Import-Export" folder inside your "My Documents \ BrillKids \ Little Reader" folder (this is automatically created when you installed LR). You may choose to always save your downloaded LR files from the Forum Downloads Library, so you can always find the files in one place when you need them.

The play button is greyed out so there is no way to do anything but go to the next lesson. I have tried downloading the next version of Little Math but can't seem to figure this out.
If your PLAY button is "greyed out" (i.e., disabled), then perhaps your Little Math is deactivated (are you able to at least select your lessons/presets?) -- can you also attach a screenshot here so we can have a look at it? For instructions on how to take a screenshot, kindly refer to this post: http://forum.brillkids.com/forum-how-tos-and-faqs/how-to-do-a-screenshot/If your Little Math is indeed deactivated (where the PLAY button and most of the functions are disabled), try re-importing your license key and see if it helps. In case you don't have your license key file anymore, you can download it again by going to Step 2 of this page: http://www.brillkids.com/user/#software-systems/little-math/indexAfter downloading your Little Math license key, simply double-click on it and Little Math will open automatically to begin the activation process (you need to be connected to the Internet to do this step). Let me know how this works for you. Will look forward to your Diagnostic Report and screenshot as well.

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: problem launching LM

Hi, From your error log, it seems that the problem is linked to Icon Sets. In relation to this, we have some questions: 1. Which exact lesson/preset were you trying to play? Can you tell us what Icon Set is assigned for this particular lesson/preset (e.g., "Basic Shapes" icon set)? To check: - Select a lesson/preset
- In the "Display Settings" summary, click on the SETTINGS button (a small window will pop up)
- Find the "Icon" section and look for the "Icon Set" item (you may also take a screenshot of this screen)
2. Do you have that particular Icon Set (the one used in the problematic lesson/preset) -- is it among the default Icon Sets that come with Little Math, or is it an Icon Set you've created or downloaded? You may find a list of all the Icon Sets available in your Little Math by going to the Numbers Library screen and toggling the "Icons" tab. **: For your reference, these are the default Icon Sets in Little Math: Basic Shapes, Fruits, Transportation, Toys, BrillKids Babies 1, BrillKids Babies 2, and Solar System Planets Kindly answer our questions above and attach a Diagnostic Report. I hope to hear from you soon

Hi Denise, I'm just wondering if your Little Math works fine now -- have you tried KL's suggestion above? If you're still having problems, kindly attach a Diagnostic Report to your reply so we may begin troubleshooting. To create a Diagnostic Report: - From your START Menu, go to 'All Programs'
- Open the 'BrillKids' folder
- Open the 'Little Reader' folder
- Find and run the 'Diagnostic' tool
- A black window will display collecting your system information. Please be patient during this process. - Once the Diagnostic tool has finished, it will open up a window containing a file named "Little Reader_[DATE].zip"
- Attach this file to your reply (simply click on the 'Choose File' button at the bottom of your post composition page and locate this file)
I hope to hear from you soon!

Hi aangeles, Sorry about the delayed response. A few questions for you: Before LM crashed, did you install anything new to your computer (other programs), or perhaps you've imported some downloaded Preset or Media Sets from our LM Downloads Library? You mentioned that LM crashes "When I click on one of the lessons under courses or even one of the presets under numbers" -- does it happen just upon clicking on the lessons/presets, or on the moment you click on the PLAY button (or EDIT button, etc.)? Kindly send us a diagnostic report as well as this could greatly help with troubleshooting. To create a Diagnostic Report: - From your START Menu, go to 'All Programs'
- Open the 'BrillKids' folder
- Open the 'Little Math' folder
- Find and run the 'Diagnostic' tool
- A black window will display collecting your system information. Please be patient during this process. - Once the Diagnostic tool has finished, it will open up a window containing a file named "Little Math_[DATE].zip"
- Please attach this file to your reply
You may also attach a screenshot showing the error, if possible. In the meantime, we will look into the error log you've attached.

Hi Yvling, Can you check if your speakers are turned ON, or if the volume is on mute (or maybe the volume is set to a very low one)? You may also adjust the volume in Little Math by going to the Playback screen -- at the bottom you should find the volume icon beside the PLAY button. If your speakers and volume settings are fine but audio is still not playing in Little Math, kindly try downloading and installing the following codec pack (very commonly used and widely known FFDSHOW codec pack) to see if it helps: http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/ffdshow-codec-pack.exeDuring setup, there will be a page called "Select Additional Tasks", and you will see "Decode the following video formats with ffdshow" and "Decode the following audio formats with ffdshow". PLEASE CHECK BOTH BOXES. After finishing installation, no need to do anything else. Just reboot Windows and give it a try (or may not need to reboot Windows, but at least restart LM). I hope this helps!

For cowboy2009: The latest version of Little Reader is 1.6.340 -- this is different from the version you currently have in the installation CD you bought last time (which is 1.6.316). Kindly download the installer for the latest version by going to this page: http://www.brillkids.com/user/#software-systems/little-reader/indexGo to STEP 1: SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD and click on the download button to get your installer file (you may check the version number of the file you are about to download by referring to the "Download the latest version of Little Reader ( ### )" text link right below the download button). After downloading, open the file and double-click on "Little_Reader_install.exe" to begin the installation. After this, you may re-import your lesson content (either by using your Content Discs, or by downloading the files from STEP 3 of the page above). To mark your previously played lessons, simply highlight the lesson folders (or specific lessons), right-click on them and choose "Mark folder played" (or "Mark played"). When you were doing the "Repair" for Little Reader, did you check the box for "Restore content to Default" in the Wizard? If you did, then this would have deleted the lessons you previously created (as well as any customizations you made to the default Categories and playback settings) -- unfortunately, you will need to redo those personalized categories. If upgrading Little Reader doesn't fix the problem, kindly try repairing your .NET Framework by following the instructions in this post: http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader-bug-reports/solution-for-users-with-';application-integrity-is-broken'-message/msg51508/#msg51508If you are still having problems after doing this, please download and run the following file: http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/DSFM-0.5.0.260.exeUpon opening this file, go to the 'Troubleshooting' tab and click on the 'Restore standard DirectX Codecs' button. After this, try opening Little Reader and see if it works fine now. I hope this fixes the problem! Let me know how it goes for you.
