1  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Does you use wipes? on: February 02, 2011, 02:59:32 AM
I sewed my own 100% cotton cloth wipes. I have about 40. I mix my own baby wipe solution by using water, hypoallergic babywash and organic vitamin E oil. But I keep my solution in a spray bottle. I keep the bottle and the dry cloth wipes next to my changing table and only spray the wipes when I need to. Cause in the past when I soaked too many wipes at a time, some of them were dry out and I'm afraid of bacterial growth in moist cloth in rather high temperature in summer. My baby never has any diaper rash. But I do keep a small pack of disposable baby wipes in my diaper bags while going out. Wink

How inspiring! Thanks for sharing your great idea with all of us, waterdreamer.  smile   I'm going to do this with my 16 month old...even though we are not reading 1500 books. It is always good to read with our kids. =-)
3  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Free Flashcards with Real Life Images?? on: June 12, 2010, 08:59:03 AM
Hi,

How about taking pictures of familiar objects around her or faces of people (like YOU) she already known to demo different emotions? I sometimes add in photos of objects my daughter has seen to make my own flash cards in LR. She enjoys it.

Just my 2 cents. I would love to know where to get free downloadable real images too. smile

4  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Learning more then 1 new language at a time... on: May 31, 2010, 10:00:42 AM
I would like to add one more way for your little ones to expose to foreign languages. Check your local libraries. smile I am surprised to find out there are Chinese/Korean/Spanish/Russian story times available! They might run in different locations. Anyway, it's an extra resource to foreign languages in a fun way AND with an ACTUAL person speaking the foreign language. Indeed, besides the libraries, sometimes, at your local children museums, they have story times too. I am lucky enough to find the children museum in our area offers weekly world language storytimes in addition to the regular story times. Hope you all find my suggestions useful.
5  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Free printable Kids Picture Books on: May 31, 2010, 08:54:11 AM
Thank you SO much for sharing this site, Zaku. I am so thankful that I have access to lots of resources since I joined brillkids. I feel more confident about homeschooling my daughter in the near future.

Thank you Susan for your great links!!
8  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Working mom: how to teach the nanny to teach 16month baby on: May 16, 2010, 08:46:01 AM
Laughingwater, thanks for your great post. Acutually I've been doing similar activities with my dd. I also would include vestibular stimulation activities e.g. daily swing and slide, go to a local gym every other week. For tactile, I introduce one new thing in the house for her to touch and feel..like one day I let her feel the elbow macaroni and the other day I let her feel the rice. Hope to hear more sharings from all of you. I'm a newbie here.
9  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Importance of Vitamin D on: May 14, 2010, 10:40:27 PM
Vitamin D was recommended by our pediatrician before my daughter turned 6 month. But she never liked the vit D supplement. She spit out...even though sometimes we mixed it in her food.  Sad      Then we forget it. Now, we feed her yogurt almost every day and she likes it. Also, bring her out to the sun whenever it's possible.  smile
10  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Has anyone been to any of Glen Doman courses? on: May 14, 2010, 09:13:51 AM
Hi,Sarah. Thanks for posting this question. I want to know that too!!  I would love to go. But I'm still nursing my daughter. I've read their course outline and they don't recommend nusring moms attending the course since it is pretty intensive and you can't bring your little ones to the class.  mellow
11  BrillKids Software / Little Math - General Discussion / Re: Little Math Testimonials on: May 14, 2010, 08:56:02 AM
Hi, I'm new here. I have started LM for about a week so far. It is unbelievable. I was SO surprised when my daughter signed me 'more' after we finished LM the recent few days. (She did that too after we were done with LR) Obviously she likes the program! Great job, Brillkids team! My daughter would turn away quickly when I showed her GD math dots before. Now, she's attentive when we watch the lessons together and always wants more. I can't wait to teach her LM in Chinese mode and try different online downloads. I'm from Hong Kong and am thrilled to discover that I can teach her math in Chinese. That's really awesome! Now our learning journey has just begun. It's going to be fun!!!!
12  BrillKids Software / Little Math - General Discussion / Re: About language in LM on: May 13, 2010, 07:59:52 PM
What a great software. Now my daughter can learn to count in Chinese. I am Chinese and would like her to learn my language. Thanks BrillKids! big grin
13  Parents' Lounge / Introduce Yourself / Homeschooling. Is it really possible if Enlgish isn't my mother tongue? on: May 10, 2010, 11:49:46 PM
Hello Everyone! I'm a SAHM of a 14 month old girl. I've been reading books about homsechooling and it really interests me. My hubby and I are open to it. How many moms here are homeschooling their kids? My only worry is that I'm Chinese and hubby is American. How challenging will it be for me to be my kid's teacher if English isn't my mother tongue? Anyone has the same experience? How do you succeed if you also run a dual-racial family? Just curious. Thanks and have a good day!!
