EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Spanish teaching resources - interesting findings

Hello Everybody, While searching in Internet came across the following site ( http://nbclatino.com/2013/08/21/5-spanish-learning-programs-for-kids/) where the lists of good resources for teaching Spanish have been listed. 2 of them were known to me, i.e. Little Pim and Whistlefritz but the other two not - Calico spanish and PetraLingua. Both looks very intersting but I was impressed by Calico Spanish program, it is the whole curruculum. Quite expensive program, they have special prices for families (not schools). Thought that it could be intersting and useful to share. Talking generally about learning languages, I must say I was very sceptical myself when I started to teach my son different languages, frankly speaking did not believe that it could be successful. Now he is about 5 years and speaks 4 languages (3 quite fluently and one not really, mixing Dutch and English words in English). So now I am quite enthusiastic to restart Spanish and Chinese (we were studying these 2 languages 2 years ago and had quite good progress but then I stopped due to several reasons). I know sometimes people afraid to start learning a language they do not speak themselves but don't be. I think that children have HUGE hidden resources and they could easily cope with everything. Pity that when people grown up, they loose these resources somehow. Ok, sorry, it was about Spanish resources and not about us

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: Poetic Knowledge - Classical Education discussion

As far as I know it is possible to create a group in skype and add people (as many as you want). It is possible to write messages to each other and also to call "the group" (i.e. everybody who is listed in this group). If it would be too many people then the quality of sound would not be very good, but up to 10 people - no problem at all.
Sonya, what is your plan for this discussion? Just an idea from me - we could also have 1-2-3 "speakers" for each chapter (like presenting the chapter, their opinion, questions and so on). And then everybody could write messages (and we could save them and post to others who could not join) and if somebody wants to talk to group as well (besides "speakers" for the day), she could call to the group.

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / I am just thinking out loud

Recently I keep thinking about one thing, the thing is that I am setting high standard for my son but am I meeting these standards myself? I mean we expect a lot from our kids (I am talking not only about results but also about their constant interest and willingness to do what we do or plan to do with them in terms of education/early learning). But could it be that in this way I am releasing myself from the burden to achieve what I want (my dream)? Because there are many excuses not to do it, but in some way or another it is to push a kid to achieve what you want but did not dare to do? I am just a bit afraid that one day my son would question me that I taught him that everything is possible, try until you can and so on but why I did not do the same? Would not really know what to answer. So he could feel betrayed in some way. So the question – should we also be an example for our kids? Or these two things stand apart from each other? and I am just tired and need vacation

Hello Everybody, Wanted to share some latest things/progress. We started the Soft Mozart program, going quite good, Martin is still enthusiastic so hopefully it will continue this way And, of course, the double bass lessons. Recently I really need to push my son to do the daily lessons (both on piano and double bass). My idea is to have short lessons, sometimes, very short but every day but he became resistant. He likes to play but somehow not to have lessons. Need to think how to motivate him and not to pressure him too much. Oh, yes, decided to try the Brillkids contest. And we did a musical video (notes, rhythms, piano and bass). Frankly speaking until I recorded this video, did not know that my son knows and can do so much Our weakest point is reading, actually he could not read at all. My fault, did not spend enough time on it, actually did not put it as priority before. Working on it. Recently bought several books of Critical thinking co. Oh, likes them a lot, very good for developing logic skills. You know, my biggest problem is that I want to try a lot of things, want to learn/teach this and this and this. Not good, I even have some books/workbooks that I never opened. Wanted to do but did not have time. I am a bit afraid to miss something, not to do what it is good to do so at the end jumping to everything but could not finish it Any advice on how to stop it? Does somebody else have the same problem?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Chinese Skype Lessons

Skylark, All their teachers are native Chinese. We had lessons with several teachers during the year and I must say that I was quite happy. Martin was sitting on my laps and we were studying together (he was only 9 months when we started). I have VIP pas (it will give a discount while ordering) if somebody needs. I am also thinking may be to take lessons with somebody else like a group lesson? It will be cheaper in this case. I must add that they become quite strict with the valid date of bought lessons. You can extend if you go on holiday but you need to take a lesson every week.
You can always request for trial lesson, it is free. Let’s see if you and your kids will like. Any further questions, please let me know.
