EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Calling all Shichida parents
|
on: September 24, 2012, 07:00:02 PM

Dear loving parents
I am situated in South Africa, and we UNFORTUNATELY, are not blessed with having Shichida lessons in SA. I would GREATLY appreciate a little insight into the format of the lesson so that I can try to recreate a little of that for my daughters at home.
I am not trying to crib their copyright IP or anything like that, but just desperately trying to teach my children early education with the VERY few resources I have at hand. ANY input would be SO greatly appreciated.
I believe that one of the beauties of right brain education is sharing this amazing blessing with all that can possibly learn from it.
Much love and blessings to you xxx

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: What type of classes will be beneficial for my 8 month old?Sensory, Music, Swim?
|

Hi, I went to my daughter's school for a talk this week, and they were saying that there is no learning without moving. I think swimming is absolutely critical for little ones - both from a safety persepctive and from learning to be active from little. And it's FUN!
We also take our daughters to Clamber club which is 1 1/2 hours once a week where they get taught a theme eg, bees and honey and get to do obstacle courses, sing, etc.
My older one does gymnastics. You didn't state how old your baby is, but I am pretty sure they are too young for that.
but do try to expose them to music too - we used to send them to kindermusiek, but now we do that at home

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / what musical and other acitivities I can do with my 6 month old
|
on: December 05, 2011, 07:58:41 AM

Hi all
I have been avidly training my 2 1/2 year old since birth, and she has reaped all the benefits of right brain training (early reading) etc. I now have a second daughter who is six months old, and I would like to give her all the benefits my first had, but also can't remember all the activities we did with our first!
Im particularly interested in music suggestions and any other fantastic acitivities that you all may have discovered. We, as parents, are learning more about Early education every day and so a lot has changed in the 2 years since my first was 6 months old!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Please help me figure up a program for fs

Hi,
I think you need to do a combination of both. Remember in this process, of course, to always hold the highest image of your child! Pamela Heickin, in her book "Right Brain education: Changing the workd one heart at a tinme" Tells a beautiful story of a teacher who started working at a school. She was given a list of kids' names, and what she thought was their IQ. They were all extremely bright and she was convinced she had the bright class. She taught them as if they were the bright class. After some weeks, the other teachers came to her and asked her how she got these problem children who were intellectually challenged to have the most inbelievable results after such a short time. She was confused, and asked them about their IQs. Indeed, they were their locker numbers!!!!"
So, it's extremely important that no matter what you teach your child, to ensure that you hold the ighest image of them.
My advice, would be to start slowly and gently, and follow the child. If you're wanting to stimulate their right brain, then perhaps start with flashing flashcards twice a day, and to stimulate their gross motor skills through fun activities such as picking up popcorn with tweezers, screwing on tops, posting, walking with an acorn and spoon etc - some of the more traditional montessori activities for younger kids. As your child builds up confidence, then your acitivites can become a little more complex. Don't wait for results and ask your child complex math equations, rather follow the right brain way of you teaching, expecting little in return - all the while TRUSTING that the brain is learning.
This method can be very ungratifying, and you see little results in the beginning, but just SUDDENLY, you WILL see the most amazing results! If you have the money, something like Little Reader and Little Math would be amazing -it's gentle and the most fantastic product!
AS for what level you should be pitching your training at - I would start off more simply and gently and build up their confidence and then move onto more advanced activities. Remember that alcohol can damage the frontal lobe and make it more difficult for your littly to concentrate - even more reason to train the right brain way!
Best of luck - you've done an AMAZING thing taking in this child, and I wish you luck as you enter this teaching journey.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: NY Times Article: Parents Urged Again to Limit TV for Youngest

I tend to agree with Maquenzie
In order to EXERCISE the right side of the brain, according Shichida, it is important to flash images at a child, less than one second at a time. If these iamges are flashed using a TV, I believe that their brains are still being exercised. - eg Tweedlewink or sparkabilities.
I would LOVE for these experts to comment on the above, as it would be interesting to see what they have to say about that.
Any comments?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Life after Math dots to continue right Brain Education
|
on: October 17, 2011, 11:27:05 AM
|
There has been much discussion on the early stages of Math development - namely using Math dots to teach Math, and possibly some of the Montessori techniques.
It has also been discussed that most kids are not able to see dots after aged 6 - and seem to lose the ability to see numbers in picture format.
So how should we teach maths other than simple Math dots? As per one of my previous posts, I mentioned Dianne Craft. She sells products with what looks like an interesting technique. I have attached a picture of what some of her Math techniques looks like
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to teach Math OTHER than using dots?
Shichida / Heguru moms - I would LOVE to hear from you please!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Teaching the Right Brain Child
|

Hi all In researching more about Right Brain education, I came across Dianne Craft. Has anyone ever heard of her? She has a DVD called: "Teaching the right brain child!!!!!" I ALWAYS love any title with Right Brain attached to it!!! Picture attached of the DVD. Has anyone ever seen these products? I am keen to order to see what it's like! Product ino: Is learning harder for your child than it should be? 50% of all children are Right Brain dominant. Teach to their strength!! Learning requires energy according to Dr. Mel Levine, but Right Brain learning takes much less energy to learn. If you have a child who "learns differently" than the curriculum teaches, you will love this DVD! Help your child feel as smart as he really is, using Right Brain Teaching strategies that put "velcro" on the things he is learning. This 2-hour DVD contains dynamic right brain learning methods tauaght by Dianne that teach children how to store information in long-term "visual" memory for maximum retention. See results immediately in your child. Your child will learn how to work "SMARTER," not "HARDER." Dr. Peter Russell of The Brain Book says that, "Visual memory is far superior to auditory memory. It is essentially perfect." Why is it perfect? Because it trains a child's Photographic Memory. "Using these Right Brain strategies, Yolanda can memorize things so easily. She feels really smart now!" Marie Nava Price: $39.99 the website I got it from: http://stores.diannecraft.org/Categories.bok?category=DVD+Videos
