[EDIT - SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM CAN BE FOUND HERE:
http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader-bug-reports/lr-crashes-during-playback/msg35019/#msg35019 ]

---------
Hi

I am not sure if there is separate section for these posts. Please feel free to move my post where you think it's appropriate.

I started using the new version of LR today and found that it crashed a few times during playback.

Here is what I did each time: Under Day 1 Lessons, I chose Session 1 - A or Session 2 - B and clicked play.

  • Sometimes and at a random point each time, I get the following MessageBox popup: "Attempted to read or write memory. This is often an indication that the other memory is corrupt". Pressing space bar again closes this box and I am able to continue the lesson. However, if I am running Session 1 - A where playback is automatic, when this error occurs, playback continues in the background with the MessageBox on top of the screen.

Sometimes, and again at a random point each time, LR becomes unresponsive and an instance of VS .net debugger would popup with the message: An unhandled win32 exception occurred in LitterReader.exe (5088). When this happens, I run Task Manager and 'End Task' on LR manually.

Please let me know if you think I'm doing something wrong or if you need more information.

I have attached the error.txt document.

Thank you
Lucky.

Hi,

I am encountering a problem while running the new version of LR. It has happened at least 3 or 4 times now.

When I am in the middle of a session, an error message pops up saying "littlereader.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." I am forced to abandon the program midway.

I have reinstalled the new LR yesterday.

The first two instances, it happened was when I tried to play the LR before "importing" the course material.

Now even after the course material is imported, I got the same problem just now.

My system specifications are:

1. Windows XP
2. Intel Pentium 4.
3. 1 GB RAM.

Please find the error log attached.

It would be great if this could be sorted out soon. Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Questers.

Can you create a System Report file (under Help menu - not HELP button - select Tech Support, and follow the instructions to create this file).  Then post it here or PM it me or Shuki.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have had two error messages so far:

1) "littlereader.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."

2) "Attempted to read or write memory. This is often an indication that the other memory is corrupt"

Please see attached system Report file.

Thanks!

We just loaded the new version and are also having this problem, but when we reach the problem point of the lesson it is shutting down.

When I open Little readeragain it plays through fine at that section but may stop at another.

I seem to be having the same problem... It crashed twice in the middle of playing Session 1C. Also the pictures are not flashing at the same speed, some stay on as long as 10s.. Now it crashed when starting Session 1B... I'm attaching the system report...... Also I don't know if this has anything to do with LR, but I installed the new version last night and this morning I had to reboot my computer 4 times before it started properly. Never happened to me before.

I have it happening to me as well, randomly at different points every time, usually starting the program again will let me play through the point where I had a problem before and it will have a problem at different time....

OK, looks like all of you are experiencing the same problem.

Can you please check this:

After you start LR, can you click on the Help menu (NOT the HELP button), and select "Check for Course Updates".

Please wait while it checks with our server, and tell me if it says there are any packs to be downloaded.

If it does, either download it or set to "do not ask me again". and see if it still happens.

Also, how long after you start LR does this happen?

KL,

I did that and it says "no course updates available on server."

The problem happens randomly. Cannot predict. Sometimes, it does not happen at all. Sometimes it happens in the first session itself. It can happen anytime during the session. When it happens, whatever is playing stops and the error message pops.

It would be nice if it could be sorted out soon.

Questers.

I did that too and it says "no course updates available on server."

For me it happens usually during the second or third playback after the LR has been opened, it did not happen on the first play back yet. So to ensure it would not happen when I am showing the lesson to my girl, I just re-start LR before the lesson ( temporaly solution that worked so far)

When it happens, it can be anytime during the session, like quester said "whatever is playing stops and the error message pops." Sometimes the program will shut doen by itself, other times I had to do cntr/alt/del in order to exit it....

Thank you for looking into it.

And... my little girl loves the curriculum, she is really paying attention and asks for more!

I had LR freeze with
"littlereader.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
coming up while looking at the future lessons in Playback mode too...(I was checking if I imported it well this time, ha)
