Dear Everyone,

I just had to share an exciting moment that we just experienced in our little house.  Sarah was playing with a bead counter that we have and she counted from 1 to 5 by herself - which I was impressed with.  And then she did it again from 1 - 10 by herself.  My husband and I looked at each other in amazement and delight that she is absorbing the LM counting lessons.  smile

Now I can hear her counting 11, 12, 13, 14 . . to her father . . .wowww! . . .  yes

Ayesha,

Thats great news!!  smile  Have you taught her counting by any other means before (other than LM)? By counting lessons, you mean quantity lessons right? How far are you into LM?

Regards,
Questers.

Hi Heyblue, We use LR. Now my son is learning additions. Only additions now, not substractions/div/multi...

I "tested" him day before yesterday. Just 3 sums.

1 plus 1
2 plus 2
3 plus 2

He got it all correct. I shall make video and give u. he is now 7mo.

Dear Questers & Everyone,

I am so proud of my girls.  And I love LM!  I am actually using the LM Doman math sets uploaded by Anji; and we are currently on Day 37 for quantity and Day 37 for math equations.

http://forum.brillkids.com/downloads/?cat=218;pg=10;sortby=date;orderby=desc

I plan to use Agnes' LM Shichida math sets next with the schedule in post #23 & #24:
http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-math/shichida-65-day-math-programme/15/

I have only used LM with the sets so far; with the exception of just counting things to them in English; like their fingers and toes; food items such as grapes, etc.; and my husband counts to them in Arabic.

I also have the Doman Math Kit and need to re-read the book to feel more confident in the teaching process (I have an aversion to math); and will use the large flash cards as reinforcement to what they are learning.

It is certainly encouraging to me to continue - even though I feel clueless about the process.

- Ayesha smile

Vani...Grid is normally used for children above 4 or 5 years who already know to count..For a baby as young as yours, you can show in random...

I am on week 2 or so of the dot method, we are up to 9 sessions per day, two dots sessions and an equation session. However, I just realized a few days ago that ALL sessions should be at least 15 mins apart, and I had been doing 3 sessions at a time back to back, 3x per day instead.

Is this a problem? Should I have started over? Also I cant tell whether she is really getting it or not....is there a point where you start all over and try again? She has already learned to read with YBCR, (b/w15 months& 24months) but I feel I am under the gun now to achieve quantitative Perception...she is 26 months.

Help!

Hi FortNelsonMom

I haven't started the dot system yet, still reading about it all, and one thing I was wondering is I know that I will never get to doing 9 sessions a day, due to work and other things, so am also wondering if 2 or 3 longer sessions would be ok.  I don't see why not, provided the child is not saying she/he have had enough.

Anyone had experience with that?

I wouldn't start over though.  She would have absorbed some of it by now so might be bored starting over.

Hey Fludo,
I don't know about little math but I do that with LR, I show sessions one and two in the same sitting. I think like you said as long as the child is not asking to stop you should be fine. Also you should make sure they are focused on the screen.

Hi, girls!
I've started Math when my baby was 4 mos. She already knows addition, substraction, division and multiply. I demonstrated cards with red dots as Doman recommends (but only from 1 to 51 - i had not enough time to do  the last ). About 7.5 mos old I have asked daughter test questions - And she did All right!!! It is really exccellent! fantastic! now We know exampes with two different actions. I only ask if somebody knows how We can  diversify our lessons. Thanks

At what age is everyone starting math with babies?  I recently finished Doman's Math book, and was able (luckily) to get the Doman math flashcards on ebay for $12 including shipping.  My baby is 5mo 1wk, and from what I was able to gather from the book, they seem to recommend 8 months, but I wasn't sure.

I've also heard signing usually starts around 7-8 months, though I've been doing it with baby from 4.5 months.  One sign language video mentioned something about memory development before 7 months that make it difficult for babies to recall if done earlier.   Anyone know about when to start as it relates to brain development & memory?

I'm interested in LM, but just saving up to get that and LR deluxe as a bundle.

I just wanted to share my experience with Doman Math Method...

I started it with my baby when he was about 3 months.  We finished it some time back.  I tried the problem solving questions a few times while we were still going through the program but he didn't look like he "got it".  I was a bit disheartened, but I kept going and stopped "testing".  I didn't want him to read my reaction and get put off.

About three days ago, I gave him three problems - random ones (e.g. 63-31, etc.) and showed him two consecutive dot cards (e.g. 32 and 33), he got them all right!

It was the strangest feeling.  I mean, I know babies are capable of doing this but somehow I still expected him to get it wrong or get confused.  At the time I "tested" him, I was elated that he got them all right.  Then, I wondered if maybe he fluked it so I tried another three random equations the next day.  He got them all right, again.  The third day (which was yesterday), I asked him another three random equations, and he got them all right, again!

I have an older boy - 3.5 years.  I tried to introduce him to Doman Math once I heard about it but could never get him interested.  I tried when he was 2 years old and I tried again when he was 3 (the same time I started the program with my baby).  Although he looked at the cards, he couldn't "see" them the way my baby can.  When I show him anything more than 3 dots, he will physically count them.

So for me, I believe you should start young! The Doman staff told me to begin the Math program at 3 months which is what I did.
