I was sent this article about math education -
http://www.maa.org/devlin/LockhartsLament.pdf. It's a really fun read about K-12 math - I really enjoyed it. I'd love to know your thoughts after reading it. While I totally agree with what he says, I think I would still be scared not to drill the math facts - especailly since kids can memorize so easily. I think I'll just have this article in the back of my mind the whole time I'm teaching math and just really focus more and more on games and the like as he gets older. Is anyone planning to teach it as an "art" like presented in the article?
