What is "general music program " ?

I guess I shouldn't say we "started her on a general music program when she was 14-15 months old" because we had actually been exposing her to very varied music genres and music from different cultures already since birth. But it was only at around that time that I started doing it systematically. I started showing her EK presentations about composers with representative samples of their music, LR lessons about musical instruments, and Trebellina on DVD. I would also play one piece of music from one composer, show her the composer's picture, and say the composer's name and title of the piece before and after playing the music. I did this for each composer for about 3 days (usually while changing her diaper or changing into pajamas at bedtime) then added more and more pieces from different composers as we went along. After a few weeks of this, she was able to identify several composers by name and by their music. I love watching these videos of her when she was just 15 months old and we had just started introducing her to the composers:

Initially I used a glockenspiel then subsequently bought a piano keyboard for these purposes. We also do a lot of singing, we play with different musical instruments like an 8-note handbell set, maracas, drums, to experiment with pitch, tempo, rhythm, etc. I subscribe to a fun (Chinese) early learning program which has monthly activity books + DVDs with large segments devoted to music and movement (as well as math and science) and I often do these exercises with her - sort of like Kindermusik at home. We have a bunch of music CDs which I rotate on a regular basis:

All of the above materials that I use for teaching her music, we had acquired slowly over the last year, so don't stress yourself out about the sheer volume of stuff that I have listed. I think that at your baby's age, the most important thing is to just expose him to a lot of varied styles of music and to have fun while doing it!
