We use it instead of formal piano lessons and intend to continue to do so. I think that it is important to do it as a complete program if you are going to go this route however, by that I mean using the flashcards, theory games and practicing sight reading. I believe this will teach my son to be able to read music and play the piano well. If in the future he desires to learn with a teacher to help learn to play more artistically we may consider it. However where we live right now is very rural and we weren't able to find any good piano lessons even if we had wanted them, not to mention cost wise for 2 children it would have been expensive.

The Do Do Do song/video is part of the Yamaha Music Education System. It came as part of enrollment package when you sign your child up for group lessons. These are the same classes that the founder of this site speaks so highly of in his blog essay "why I avoid traditional piano lessons for my daughter," which convinced me to try them in the first place. http://blog.brillkids.com/?p=126

I am actually shocked I was able to pull this Roller Coaster video up on YouTube, I think only because they are in Italian and aren't coming up in a regular search. From the best I can tell, there is very little of these on Youtube and they are kept off due to copyright. This guy has a few listed though: https://www.youtube.com/user/mirco64?feature=watch There is a lesson first and then the song starts on 3:19.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/LnI8m0rXKSI&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/LnI8m0rXKSI&rel=1</a>!

This person has a couple listed too, but I think I looked at them before and they use a slightly different naming system in a couple of them (si instead of ti). It is a worldwide program but it is slightly different depending on the country it is being used.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/si0uynrMMyQ&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/si0uynrMMyQ&rel=1</a>

Anyway, that will give you a pretty good idea. But I don't want to hijack this thread. I will probably split this post later when I have more time to keep things on topic.

The 2nd Annual Soft Mozart YouTube Recital has come to a close. We are very proud of all of our students. We think it is important to motivate them, especially our children, to continue to learn and perform piano.
Sometimes one just need a little encouragement . We want to spread music making and make it contagious. Our goal is to awaken creative energy in each of you to encourage the same energy in others.

Therefore, we invite you to participate in our Soft Mozart Patron of Music campaign. Beginning June 3rd we will be highlighting one or two of our participants on our facebook page and on the PTO youtube channel. You get to show your appreciation for our students who are keeping music alive by posting comments on their performance/performances! The brightest, most interesting and touching comments are going to get prizes!
All you have to do is to write words of encouragement to our recital 2013 graduation participants.

For that we are willing to reward you with the following products:

Where and how to comment?

You will find a complete list of all the performers under each participants topic heading in our forum located here: www.softmozart.com/forum/62-internationa...ozart-recital-2.html

The commenting has to be unique for each participant and based on his/her performance, age group and other individual features. Your words of encouragement are very important to each piano performer. We all want to be loved and appreciated, especially when we work hard for it!

Who is going to vote for you?

Each of our participants or their guides will vote for you. People who will get the most votes from our recital participants will be nominated for the prizes.

Hellene beat me to the punchline.

Here is Philip's video from the recital. He is finally able to play without getting up and running around. He focuses better and will practice for 20 minutes or more. We are working on using all fingers. But he likes to play with his thumb. I bribed him to play with his index finger for the recital. He thinks it is fun to play with his thumb. He is still feeding the spiders in Guess Key Module. He said the spider has to feed her babies...I finally realized that came from Charlotte's Web. So he gets one right and then one wrong so he can give it to the spider. He is not impressed by the fact that Mr. Oops needs to make a pie.

This contest is a great time to see what Soft Mozart can do. You will see kids that just started and kids that have been using it for a few years. Jothi is a good example of what can happen in a year. But there are a lot of others. It makes me feel better that many of the kids that are doing well using the program alone started out just like Philip even though they were much older. The kids have to be trained to pay attention. I am looking forward to what the next year will bring for all my kids. I will post an update of Cayla later. She is now 4, has Down Syndrome, and is playing with all her fingers!!!!!! She can play with each hand separately, but not together yet. I think by Christmas we will have both hands playing "Ode to Joy".

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/up8YdaRzrCE&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/up8YdaRzrCE&rel=1</a>

The following video was an inspiration to us. The little girl at the beginning was a lot like Philip. She won't use the right fingers, she is moving her head around and arguing with her mother. And then you see her 2.5 years later. I don't think a piano teacher...even Hellene can do that by herself. I think it is the program itself.

Oh wow, that little girl IS impressive.  We're at the "before" stage, it's so encouraging to see where we can be in a few years.  We've done Soft Mozart one semester.  My kids are definitely still beginners, but they have made some amazing progress this semester.  Most importantly, they have built up their attention spans for longer, focused practice.  I didn't want to push for 30 minutes a day in the beginning, and I'm glad that we took the time to ease into it.  We're there now, and they don't complain, they enjoy it.  My oldest two can now read music, and Soft Mozart was key to getting their foot in the door.

If there is anything that I learned in the last 2 years with Early Learning is that you have no idea what is really going on in their heads. It may seem like they cannot read, but they can. It may seem like they are not paying attention, but they are. When Philip decided to play, he played. Now there isn't a struggle EVER! But that first year was like banging my head against a wall. I was very frustrated - but I should n't have been. I should have enjoyed the journey!  I think you just keep presenting the information. Giving the kids the opportunity and waiting with patience. There are some things you can do to help, but if the child doesn't want to they just won't and you really can't make a toddler "do anything".

Being at the beginning is a great place to be, You have the ability to look at what others are accomplishing. I can see Philip is actually doing as well as this little girl was - but Philip is starting a whole year sooner. So I am fairly confident that we can at least hit that milestone. When Philip started mastering words at 16-17 months very quickly, I posted on here about what to do next. And a couple people told me that at about 18 months that phonics awareness started to kick in for their kids. Sure enough, in the middle of the 18th months, it kicked in for Philip. He has only read a few books to me ever - we will often go weeks without getting anything from him. He just doesn't want to. But when he does read, he reads with fluency. According to Reading Eggs he is about the middle to end of 1st grade. You would never know it you ask him directly to read for you. He just won't. But I think by kindergarten, he will be doing just fine......for now I plan on enjoying this ride.

I've recorded Alin for the recital and for this I took our lessons to the next step recommended by Hellene: removing stickers and use just keyguides.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/QvS5lWzdsMI&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/QvS5lWzdsMI&rel=1</a>

If you want to read what Hellene is saying about his progress and how is he now, as a brain injured child: here
And after that day here's what he is doing in a day:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/COIlo0Wumjg&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/COIlo0Wumjg&rel=1</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ka6AQRedKMA&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/Ka6AQRedKMA&rel=1</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/EjNzX62Neyg&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/EjNzX62Neyg&rel=1</a>

I've started to record him every day. I will soon post videos on his next challenge/assignments.

We missed the deadline for the recital because of my medical trip to Belgium with Isa which upset my little princess , so we decided we can have our own recital for our friends and family all over the world to enjoy :

I want to thank Hellene for her wonderful support love and dedication . I could not afford private piano lessons but Softmozart made it possible for my daughter to learn to play in a very fun effortless way  , we are at the very beginning of our music learning journey but very motivated and looking forward to more piano learning with SoftMozart xxx

Bella, these are beautiful videos! I am so surprised, because last time we had a Skype lesson with Tina and she was afraid to use both hands LOL
Please, submit the videos to the forum. We have last nomination celebrations going on. We would love to nominate Tina and send her a gift!
