This is one of the worst software that I ever bought in my life. I bought the previous standalone version and it really sucks. I never know when it works and when it does not. I agree with KL, he once said that installation of soft mozart is really painful.

Arvi,

You said “sometimes it works and sometimes it does not”. I wonder could it due to interchange of the dongle with the MIDI cable USB port?
During the installation process, we have to insert the dongle into a USB port (let’s call USB port 1) and MIDI cable into another USB port (let’s call USB port 2). Assuming we have to take out the dongle and MIDI cable from the USB port after the use of Soft Mozart software. The next time we use the software, the dongle has to be inserted in USB port 1 and MIDI cable in USB port 2. Try not to interchange between different USB ports.

If this does not work, you may want to email to the tech support.

I posted our experience with SM program here:

http://softmozart.com/forum/15-learning-experience/465-week-1-of-softmozart--toddler-28-months.html

So far I am very pleased with my DD progress.

Arvi,

I remeber that on SM forum other people wrote Hellene about similar issues regarding the previous version.
You should write to [email protected] and tell them about the problem, maybe they will help you solve the problem once and for all.
Hellene pays very much attention to problems with SM products (and I think her team is bigger than she had at the beginning).
If you don't tell them your problem, how can they help you? They are just as receptive as the Brillkids team.

After buying SM - the 12 month subscription -, I didn't have any installation or functioning problem. It works just fine, either with (when midi connection is needed) or without the midi connection.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I was able to fix the problem with soft mozart's technical help. I must say that they were very quick in responding to my emails.

Ladies and gentlemen  smile , I am happy to announce you that I've just written my first review on Soft Way to Mozart and how me (31 years old) and my DS1 (3.5 years old) have been doing with it. Here's the link: http://softmozart.com/forum/15-learning-experience/754-andrea-and-kids-learning-with-soft-mozart.html

My conclusion so far:

Soft Way to Mozart is suitable for any age group (2 and up, but it may be useful even with smaller kids, if they can be there and watch you or someone else playing, I guess - I'm saying that after reading a father review on SM forum).

The "games" in the software are really meant to help you learn and improve your skills. As Hellene sustained, I clearly can agree that the software has a "feeling" of your rhythm and mistakes and will help you along the way giving you what and how you need. I have tried and played so far, in 2 weeks, 4 out of 7 games (Gentle Piano, Guess Key School, Fruit Lines School, Note Duration School). My DS1 has played Gentle Piano (the first song, Hot Cross Buns, and Guess Key School).
Of course, I learn faster than my DS1. And with him I need to be very patient and take it slow, to his own pace, see what he likes and what he doesn't, to adjust my "teaching" methods. Thanks to ideas on SM or BK forum I can always create something or use what other parents have done to show it to my child and help him learn.

Hellene is giving good advice for each of her students, parents and children, and is trying to answer all questions in due time. Just by reading all of her many answers to other threads and parents' experience I have learnt so much and found good ideas to put in practice into our learning progress.

Who wants to take a shot until 31st of December, well, here's your chance (http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-music/softway-mozart-for-a-$50-discount!-1-year-license-for-only-$100-bucks!/msg78870/?topicseen#new).

MAIN ARTICLE => The Gibberish of Notes

As I have explained, the lines of the staves are like a spy’s secret code to beginners. If one tries to read them like the lines of a book, another trap lies in waiting. In a book, the stuff between the lines is separate, empty space. In sheet music, the spaces between lines are just as important. While reading books, we only have to focus on one line at a time; with music, we’ve got to focus on eleven at minimum! Five lines and six spaces, plus supplemental lines (and spaces) for high and low notes must all be fixated upon simultaneously!

Lines and spaces in sheet music are equally important, just like the squares on a chessboard. But they are represented in completely unequal ways: the black space is made of thin lines, and the white comprises the large space between them. This confuses our perception. The lines are perceived to be something important, like the lines in a book. The notes on the lines appear to be more prominent, and to a beginner, this means that they are more important. The notes on the spaces, in turn, aren’t as prominent, and are therefore believed to be less important. This tendency isn’t at all what we’d like to enforce in our students, is it? For example, this is why beginners that are shown notes on the first and second line, Mi and Sol, play two keys that are next to each other, like Mi and Fa. The interval between the lines (the note Fa) is assumed to be empty space.

To keep this from happening, music notation should have a different appearance when shown to beginners. We should widen the black lines, so their width matches that of the white. This makes the significance of both ‘paths’ for notes visually equal, and the beginner isn’t distracted by the ‘prominence’ of certain notes. The most important quality becomes their position on the staff, which is as it should be, practically speaking.

A child’s thought process is based on concrete evidence. In order to first understand that 1+1=2, the kid must pick up a stick in each of his hands, then see them together. In order to understand that the thin lines and the spaces between them are equal lines of text, he must be able to see this with his own eyes, and feel it with his hands. Where can one touch and hear the music staff? On the keys, of course! The keys of the piano are a natural extension of the lines and spaces in sheet music.

Simply by widening the lines on the music staff, we help the child to solve several problems at once:
•    Understanding the logic of the positioning of the notes, and developing the perception of lines and spaces and their equal significance
•    Perceiving the visual representations of intervals
•    Seeing the music alphabet on the music staff
•    Concretizing music theory and tying it to hands on the keys
•   Developing the eye’s accuracy in music reading in order to fluently sight read.

Read more about it in Hellene Hiner’s book ‘You CAN be a musician’ Read more about it in Hellene Hiner’s book ‘You CAN be a musician’

TIP OF THE WEEK:

Development of eyesight is very important in piano learning!

If you are using sheet music, don’t be afraid to use colorful pencils to help your eyes to see the notes!

It is better TO SEE and play then looking for and fail.

SUCCESS STORY:

Hello, I am Andrea Escalante, from San José, Costa Rica!!
I am one of Hellene Hiner's biggest fan!! I have teached piano to small kids and teenagers for 5 years, using this incredible Software. There is NOT a single person, or kid that has been introduced to this amazing piano learning experience, and does not LOVE it!! It pops the children's self-esteem right up from the beguinning, they simply realize that they really can do it...they can play piano!! Adult beguinners feel the same! And then...the program demands more and more from them, making it entertaining and exciting! Hope everyone has the chance to find out, that piano playing IS for anyone who wants to!!

 Hi
I am hoping to try out Soft Mozart but while the Demo connection with my piano is working but that is about it. The icons are all frozen. I think the problem could be that Windows 8 does not allow change from 32 bit to 16 bit. Something to do with the desktop window manager needing 32 bit to run and it runs all the time. I wonder if others have overcome this problem. It seems that it will be hard to find a newish system to run on 16 bit even though SoftMozart website states that Windows 8 is compatible. I hope someone can help. Thank you.

Hello, Analie!
Could you, please, specify, what version of Soft Mozart do you have on your computer?
Where did you download it from?
