Hi,
I used photo album with my first with our own photos in it and she loved it.
My first two started reading with Ladybird Peter and Jane though only first books have large font. By the time we got past numbers 4 (they have a, b sight reading and c phonics which I didn't have) they read fluently from any kids books. As about being exciting, my kids love reading "we want sweets", as we allow them very little
Here is a link for a similar reading aid
http://www.auroraproduction.com/series.php?serid=1&prodid=88it's a Christian publisher so all the books are Christian with personable Jesus talked to as a Friend
Tommy and Meg has large print, text separate from pictures, not as much repetition as Peter and Jane and card stock word cards
I got that set and will try it out on Niki
They have a nice series of story books with large print also, I read them to my kids a lot as they are the favorite right now. I got the books with the CDs to make my life easier and their pronunciation clearer
We've known these folks for years, so right now we got involved in translating and producing some of their stuff in Central European languages.
Another set I have is Start Early Posters and they are a great tool.
Anyway, check them out.
