fun places to visit in your state

I think it would be nice to share some fun landmarks or places to visit in your state or area. That way, if anyone is traveling, they will know some recommended places to visit.

I am about 45 minutes outside of downtown Charleston, South Carolina. There is so much history there. There is the battery, all kinds of beautiful historic houses (including the famous rainbow row), carriage rides through historic downtown, the market (a walk-through market that has been there for ever), a children's museum, great art museums, and so much more!

I also live fairly close to the beaches. I am not too much of a beach person, but those who are out of state would probably love them.

There are some great gardens around too. Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner and Brookgreen Gardens in Myrtle Beach (Myrtle Beach is a great tourist spot. There is tons of fun stuff to do there!)

I am in Colorado.  The mountains are great.  Skiing and snowboarding are lots of fun.  And places like Breckenridge and Vail are pretty in the winter even if you don't ski.  Most ski areas are just northwest of Denver.  Denver is your usual big city with lots to do.  I like the museums.  I live down south in Pueblo.  Not a whole lot to do, but we have our own little zoo (no elephants) and a nice children's museum.

I am in Maryland here we dont have much places to go.Very few place which includes Baltimore aquarium,NASA etc.But country's capital is near by Washington DC it has lots of things to see like White House,Museums,aquariums etc.

Sapna, I'm in Maryland too!  What type of things would you like to do?  Where would you want to go?  I'm always trying to find new places to go and things to do around here, and there are actually a few neat things if you know where to look.

Some of the really neat things in Northeast Texas:

Southwest Diary Museum in Sulphur Springs, TX has lots of dairy historical items, great ice cream, and a working model of a cow.

Northeast Texas Dairy Museum in Commerce, TX has great little centers where children can learn about all sorts of things--from a hospital to jungle to a courtroom. Very cute, never crowded, great price.

We live less about an hour outside of downtown Chicago. It is so nice and we love all the museums and parks. In the summer we spend a lot of time at Millennium Park (http://www.millenniumpark.org/), which is great and we love the fountains, gardens, architecture, etc.

They have so many great museums. We have a membership to the Museum of Science and Industry, which is so much fun. There's also the Shed Aquarium, the Art Institute, the Planetarium, and the Field Museum (History). There are quite a few other small museums, as well as a small children's museum and a zoo.

We also live about 20 minutes away from the Indiana Dunes (http://www.nps.gov/indu/). We love to go there especially in the summer.

There are others, but those are our favorites. Indianapolis has a great Children's Museum, but it's three hours away. Most of Indiana is corn and hillbillies but we've got our share of interesting stuff . (http://www.in.gov/visitindiana/)

NJ: LIBERTY SCIENCE CENTER (Jersey Shore): Jenkinsons Aquarium, Monmouth Children's Museum (ONE membership gives you FREE entrance to MOST of them!!!) on Brookdale Community College campus, Ocean County Planetarium, Play area and Carousel at Freehold raceway mall, Jackson) Six Flags Great Adventure (Safari drive through park and Water Park), (CAMDEN): NJ State Aquarium, ALL THE STATE PARKS (Allaire!!, the one in or near TOMS RIVER?!!!!...)

NYC: Manhattan: Children's Museum of Art (hands on!!), Sony Technology Wonder Lab (FREE!), Museum of Natural History (Pay what you want: 1 penny!) AND (three blocks up and west) Manhattan Children's Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art (awesome library and kids "tour") (Pay what you want: 1 penny!), Central Park Zoo and petting Zoo, FAO Schwartz, Ice skating in the park or at Rockefeller Center...

Brooklyn: ZOO, Botanical Gardens, Children's Museums, AQUARIUM
