While reading about Jones Genius i came across the Touch Math product.
I have two opposite opinions and will appreciate you point of view.
On one hand i think that the cards with the dots help the child to undersatnd the concept of the number by relating it to the numeber of dots displayed.
On the other hand while watching the video about adding numbers it seems so easy for small kids to understand what addition means but my concern is : IS IT OK to count the dots on each card to give the addition result? I guess that is a technique that has to be follow to assimilate the addition concept and in time the will have memorize and will not have to do the counting in order to give the result. So math is a lot of MEMORIZING facts that is much better when they are understood.
I remember other workbooks used to show figures of fuits etc besides the number for the children to count so i guess this is valid and much better because without actually showing the DOTS, children who view the flashcards before have thos images in their head.
I hope i express my ideas correctly.
I think it is very easy for kids to recall the dots and menatlly see them while doing the counting.
I will try something like this with my 3 yr old grandson :
