Absolutely love the Beta LR!
I like that it opens up on a page ready to play. The pointer function is great. Best of all, the word written underneath each picture and video (for the English curriculum), brilliant.

God job, can't wait to discover the new features over the coming days!

I would like to test LR 2.0.

just a couple of queries :

Can I install it on a machine which  is not one of the machine
on which I am using my earlier LR ?

Is there any deadline for giving you suggestions.

@hypatia: Glad you love it! smile

@kreena: Yes, you may install LR 2.0 [BETA] on a different computer, but you need to make sure that this will just be your 2nd installation. The "2 active installations at any one time" rule still applies for LR 2.0, so if you've previously installed the current LR version in two of your computers, please remove one of them so you have a free activation slot for LR 2.0

Hi, I installed LR 2.0 but it looks like it's built for the US curriculum since it couldn't recognise either semesters of the UK curriculum I use.   So, I've had to uninstall it.  Sad

Hi,

I have just installed v 2.0.  It starts with error message (LR encountered a problem ...) and when I close it it spontaneously restarts 2 times. When I run it, I am loosing sound in multisensory presentations at 3rd slide and on.
I have not uninstalled previous vesion, could this cause the problem?

Hi,
I have just realized I have used wrong format to report the bug, and also after restarting computer a part of the problem seems to be resolved. So please ignore above message, I have created a new error report and sent it via LR.

There is one more small bug I want to report here: note the grey bar on the top of the screen partially covering the main menu icones.

Hi Lappy & KL,
Thanks for choosing me as one of the Beta testers. Not sure if any of these are bugs but here are my thoughts so far.

Please keep in mind that i'm recovering from a major surgery and I really am on a lot of medication,
in case i say anything that's totally obvious or brainfreeze.

I'm really enjoying the new features and learning about them.

love the auto pointer. love it.
love the word under the image- can we make it bigger or smaller?
--- option to choose how many pictures and videos per word- love it
Edit Word- I like how it's intuitiveley right there

I'm finding that a high percentage of the time, when i begin a lesson. the sound is delayed a bit or some times not said at all.

1.  but when i have any of the lessons highlighted, i can no longer double click it to begin play.
( screenshot below )
I know the play button is usable but if my mouse is already right on top of the desired lesson, why should we have to make the extra movement.

Boy, does that ever sound lazy, but with my boy in my arms in bed cuddling while we're watching and im at a strange angle,
it would be nice to have again. is it something i did in the override?

- Im finding the font size very small in many places. Is there a way that you could make it bigger all over or allow us to choose?
maybe Create a "Preferences" section. Like option to choose colors for background in the forum.

I have a 15 inch macbook pro laptop and i find for my eyes, that 18 or 20 works best for typing and reading-
I use g-mail to create my posts then cut & paste-

Most of these places seem to have more than ample room to increase font size.
Some pages actually seem really empty ie.
yep the whole start guide- even after i make it full screen
-Faqs & Tips, Video tutorial,
   - manual
I wonder if you chose to design for bigger screens? Desktops more than laptops?

 - a warning pop up says i have a custom dpi and it highly reccommends that i go back to default. Windows 7 sets small at 100%
I'm fooling around with it but how much and how will it effect the program if i do go custom dpi? do u have any suggestions on how big I could go without it causing problems?

- I experimented w/ custom DPI of 150%- screen shot of Download-library- and i don't like using the zoom lens, that's windows 7 i think.
    ( Screenshot is below )

- Auto Forward- Love this, thank you. A few things to improve it.

- In multi-sensory w/Auto forward- So far i've only used word-media-word. I assumed it would only be that way for multi-sensory.
If i choose this option, I get it in word flash and picture flash.  i find that it frustrates me.

I find that when i didn't have this option, i would really take my time in multi-sensory using the replay button often, pausing to ask boy to repeat and even going back to see the word again.
Would like option to replay word multiple times. only on the front/first word if i choose word-media-word though.

--  I set delay for 2 sec - the longest option u give. not sure why the category name is repeated twice with the pointer going twice also ( I really like this!!! ) but the words are delayed 2 secs but the pointer goes only once. would like option for pointer to go one or twice. once is good to give time for child to repeat the word if you ask but not quite enough. MAybe option of setting it to 5 sec? This should be an easy add- Again, this section was meant to have more time to interact. Twice adds

***** I would like the minimum slide duration to have option to be longer 1-10 i think. This is about what i do without auto forward so it would allow me to keep the same general approach but be hands free. 3 secs isn't long enough to use opposite learning style to flash for 1 sec.

- This may have been unavoidable or because of my custom dpi but on most screens that show word under image,
a translucent bar runs across entire bottom of screen. Not the worst thing in the world, but not top notch professional either.

That's it for now. I'll play with it again tomorrow
Thanks again smilesmile very excited about all the possibilities.

I

Hi Guys,
1. I've added some new words to "Action Words 1". kisses, cuddles, shakey & surfing. all words & actions we're excited to teach Wyatt. Yes, surfing is a word that we want our 11 month baby to learn smile
Just like his mommy & daddy. An active water baby.

I can see them in the list in the category, i can play them when i'm in the category- i can play the whole category with them start to finish...
but as far as i can see, they have not been added to any of the lessons that i've looked at. Isn't that the point of "Adding" new words? i want them to join the curriculum not have to create a whole new category. What am i doing wrong?

Modification of above...Afteri was frustrated enough and gave up for awhile, i came back and realized that the 2 files that i had been adding to were marked to the right as ExtremeBartendingDad....before i downloaded V 2 , as suggested, i saved the files that i had customized...Action Words 1 and Common animals 1.
they are at the top of the list in the categories tab. I never thought about it. I saw them and opened them and kept adding to them with your new system.

I tried drag & drop into BK file to merge....doesn/t work. I can drop it next to it. I notice the number is 1 for BK and 1(1) for mine. I changed mine to 1 and BK to 4.. I still can't find it in the curriculum so... i tactically retreat yet again smile
Please help.

2. This is an additional suggestion/request based on that issue.

I've been searching the days of lessons to see if these words show up. the buttons to go forward or back in the days are good, but the default setting you have is that when you click either arrow to go to the next day it goes to the first word flash of the first lesson.

For my needs in the above manner, it's been more difficult.

For this time, I'd like the highlighted ???? style of teaching lesson...word flash, multi-sensory, picture flash etc. to stay the same when i go to the next day.

That would allow us to search the entire curriculum more efficiently. It may sound small, but i'm excited to see what's in a lesson next week and i've just found that i'd like to be able to do it in a different way than you have set up now.
My # 1 is obviously more important.
Thank you
I'm still really enjoying the changes.

What do you think?

I have just installed V.2.o .In the categories section i can see the categories for semester 2 and the foreigen language categories (semester 1 and 2,which i downloaded from the Little Reader Library,in german language)but i can not find the english categories for semester 1.In the courses section i can find the english curriculum lessons for semester 1 and semester 2.How can i find the  semester 1  english categories in the categories section ?
Second question:I have downloaded foreigen language categories but i would like to play not only categories in thase language(ex:action words categories ,and than separete parts of the body, and than common animals)I would like to play  lessons with  few action words ,few parts of the body words,in a given sequence ,same as the english lessons are made.Is that  possible?
Thank you.

Hi Sidonia,

Can you clarify if you have imported all your English curriculum files for Sem 1 and 2 before installing LR 2.0? If you did, and then your English Semester 1 categories went missing after installing LR 2.0, a quick way to fix this is to re-import your Semester 1 file. In the meantime, can you please send us a diagnostic report so we can troubleshoot?

You may find instructions on how to create a diagnostic report in this page: http://support.brillkids.com/index.php/article/get-tech-support-little-reader-2

For your second question, as I have mentioned in your other post, you can't create your own curriculum yet, and for now you may only create or download foreign language categories (as you've already done). What you can do, to be able to play your foreign language categories in a similar way as the English Course lessons, is to make your own playlist.

You will notice that in your LR's Advanced Play/Edit screen, you have three tabs for Courses, Playlists, and Categories -- simply click on "Playlists" and here you can create your own playlist, patterned after the English courses.

I hope this helps!

Hi Guys,
here are a few more observations i've noticed.

1. "Random" sequence- please define.
Is it random but equal presentation?- each word will get played this time
OR
Random but not equal presentation? There may be multiple plays of same word and zero plays of some words?

2. I've noticed , on random setting, the categories will get mixed together. EX.
one time this happened... parts of the body-head ) text )...common animals ( text)...wave...etc.... confusing ??
can we have random within each category?

3. Sending a report through support tools- I've sent quite a few now to help with beta and i don't understand why you can't automatically have our .name, e-mail address inputted in field.

Thanks for the good work smile

No, it's not built for the US curriculum.  What do you mean by not recognising it?  Can you tell me exactly what you did and what happened?

Can you also make sure you download the latest versions of the curriculum content (in the Beta page) which is made specifically for v2.0.

There is one more small bug I want to report here: note the grey bar on the top of the screen partially covering the main menu icones.

Thanks, that's actually a notification feature to allow us to alert you to stuff.  We forgot to turn it off. You should no longer see it anymore for now! smile

love the word under the image- can we make it bigger or smaller?

Right now, unfortunately not. Might add this as an option later on.

I'm finding that a high percentage of the time, when i begin a lesson. the sound is delayed a bit or some times not said at all.

You need to get the sound issue checked out and fixed.  Did you create another support thread for this? Has it been solved? Make sure you also use the built-in Sound Wizard that will help troubleshoot sound problems.  It's under Tools/Support Tools.

Did you use to be able to do that?  I never realized...  LOL
OK, will have this feature implemented soon - should be quite easy.  In the meantime, you can also right-click and select play.

Would be quite a big job.  Will put it on the list but it would be lower in priority than many other tasks.  For now, just play around with the DPI settings, like you've been doing here:

Quote
- a warning pop up says i have a custom dpi and it highly reccommends that i go back to default. Windows 7 sets small at 100%
I'm fooling around with it but how much and how will it effect the program if i do go custom dpi? do u have any suggestions on how big I could go without it causing problems?

That warning is just to let you know some parts of the app may look funny if you do that - you can still continue to use it.  Just try it and see if it actually does affect anything. Hard to say cos computer configurations can be very different.

Not sure I understand correctly.  Are you playing back Categories (as opposed to the curriculum lessons)?  Yes, autoforward settings are specified for each Category, Playlist and Lesson.  If you use the same Category to play it back in different modes (like word/media/word and word only), then you would have to turn the Autoforward on/off each time if you'd like it to be different for the different modes.  (In Courses/Lessons mode, we've done all that for you already).

If that's the issue, then that's a good point.  We will be adding in "Playback Settings Profiles" in the next version (2.1) which will partly address this, but we will try to think of an easy way to do what you mentioned.

Twice adds

I think it's probably cos you have it set to show "Word, Media, Word", right? So it plays back the Title slide, then skips the media (since there's no pic to it), and plays the word a second time.  Maybe we need to make it such that it only plays once if the'res no media attached.

***** I would like the minimum slide duration to have option to be longer 1-10 i think. This is about what i do without auto forward so it would allow me to keep the same general approach but be hands free. 3 secs isn't long enough to use opposite learning style to flash for 1 sec.

Tha'ts not what this function is for. What you really need is the ability to change the autoforward delay to a value that's much greater than 2 seconds.  We didn't want to put anything more than 2 seconds because we believe that for your purpose, you should really be forwarding the slides manually.

- This may have been unavoidable or because of my custom dpi but on most screens that show word under image,
a translucent bar runs across entire bottom of screen. Not the worst thing in the world, but not top notch professional either.

actually, it was deliberate. smile  We had 2 options:

1. Having the picture/video shrink as much as was needed to accommodate the word bar; or
2. Leaving the picture/video at the full size and have the word bar cover it up

Neither was appealing to me so we opted for an in-between solution.  What would you prefer?

1. "Random" sequence- please define.
Is it random but equal presentation?- each word will get played this time
OR
Random but not equal presentation? There may be multiple plays of same word and zero plays of some words?

It refers to the "Order" so it means it plays back in random order, which should imply that everything gets played back, just in a different order.  Perhaps we should call it "Shuffle"?

2. I've noticed , on random setting, the categories will get mixed together. EX.
one time this happened... parts of the body-head ) text )...common animals ( text)...wave...etc.... confusing ??
can we have random within each category?

Can you tell me whether this is in Course lessons or Categories? If Categories, that means that the title slide has not been set properly to be "first slide".  We've noticed that there have been some Categories where this was not done properly, and we'll be releasing an updated content pack asap.

If you're referring to Course lessons, then you will experience that if you manually opt to randomize it.  Unfortunately, due to the way it's set up and the current limitations of LR, you can't randomize it without you encountering that very problem.  It needs to be left in the original order for now...

3. Sending a report through support tools- I've sent quite a few now to help with beta and i don't understand why you can't automatically have our .name, e-mail address inputted in field.

Good suggestion.  Will see what we can do.

Thanks!
