Hi Lelask - chickens by definition can either be a hen or a rooster (male or female). They are both chickens, in which case they are both accurate to use for the word 'chicken.'
Regarding the pronunciation file for purple, if you are referring to the PAs, the only diff is that in US English we use "eggplants are purple" vs in UK it's "aubergines are purple" (aside from the different voice artists). If this isn't the issue you are describing, can you kindly give us more information about it so we can check it out?
