From your Diagnostic Report we found that your computer is experiencing audio codec errors, and perhaps this is what's causing the problem you have described. Please try our suggestions below:
1. Upgrade your Little Reader
Since you are currently using an older version, v 1.6.342 , we recommend that you upgrade to the latest version available (v 2.0.706) as this will come with all the fixes and upgrades from the previous versions of Little Reader. Kindly make sure that you have saved a backup of your personal or customized lessons, including those you have downloaded from the Forum Downloads Library, before proceeding with the upgrade using Little Reader's Export function. This is just a precaution in case you will need to re-import your files after installing the new version.
Once you have backed up your personal files, you may refer to this Support article for detailed instructions on how to get the latest version of Little Reader:

After upgrading Little Reader, try playing a lesson and see if the problem was fixed. If it still hangs during the lesson, do try the next suggestion:
2. Use the Audio Diagnostic Tool
Kindly try using the Audio Diagnostic Tool and see if it helps fix the playback problem you are experiencing:
- Open Little Reader and go to the "Tools" screen
- Go to "Support Tools," then click on the "Launch Little Reader Support Tools" button
- In the Support Tools window, go to "Sound Problems?" and run the Audio Diagnostic Tool
- Once the tool has finished, you may play a sample audio or go back to your BrillKids software to check if the problem was fixed
- Click on IT WORKS! if your sound problem was fixed, and if not, click on PROBLEM NOT FIXED to continue making system adjustments
If you are still having sound playback problems after the Audio Diagnostic Tool has finished doing all possible adjustments, please let us know. We also request that you attach a new Diagnostic Report to your reply so we can troubleshoot further:
