LR Data Upgrade Error Message?!?

Hi there Tech Support,

I just upgraded to LR 2.0 Beta, and chose to launch the program after it finished installing.  I received the attached message, and am unsure what to do?  

The error box says:

LR Data Upgrade:
LR has encountered a problem.  Please send a Diagnostic Report to the BK Support Team to resolve the problem. 
Alternatively, if you do not mind erasing your old content library, press 'IGNORE' and LR will install a new content library.
(in red):  If you choose 'Ignore', you will lose your old content library.
Choices:  Abort / Retry / Ignore

What does that mean to "lose your old content library."?  Is that for LR curriculuum only ?  Or does this include all of the categories and playlists that I manually created?   Please advise as soon as possible.

update @ 6:34 pm EST > selected "retry" and it began a "LR data upgrade", once it finished, and it opened just fine and all of the manually created categories and playlists seem to be present and accounted for . . . 

new question:  why does it say "BrillKids Little Reader 2.0.685 (Trial Version)" - why is this a "trial veresion"?  do I need to purchase the full version?  thanks.

update @ 7:05 pm EST > i figured out why it was a labeled as a "trial version", was because I needed to import the license key, which activated it.    the new format is much nicer and it seems easier to use.  thank you!!!!!

Dear Tech Support,

I just noticed after the upgrade to 2.0 Beta, that I am missing some media files in various manually created categories and playlists.  I am very unhappy about this  , because of the time factor involved and I don't understand why the media files are missing with this upgrade, when in previous upgrades, they remained in tact?

The media files for the following categories (and the playlists are too many to list), are jpeg preview is missing (I think it has something to do with the filepath name, because the name of the jpeg file and audio files are listed, but appear to be inaccessible; so the jpeg is unseen in the preview window; although the mp3 will play in the window for some of them, but not all - based on a spot check, these are the results):

1. Noorani English Lesson 2 - Page 7 (no image in preview, mp3 plays)
2. Noorani English Lesson 3 - Page 9 (no image in preview, mp3 plays
3. Noorani Lesson 4 - page 10 ii with Spell Reading (no image and no mp3 sound)
4. Noorani Lesson 4 - page 11 ii with Spell Reading (no image and no mp3 sound)
5. Noorani Lesson 4 - page 10 ii without Spell Reading (no image and no mp3 sound)
6. Noorani Lesson 4 - page 11 ii without Spell Reading (no image and no mp3 sound)

(Lessons 2 & 3 are "original" categories"; while Lesson 4 are variations of the original Lesson 4 category and I can recreate them, but the issue is one of time for me; especially because I need to present all of the al-Qai'dah al-Noorani lessons that I have converted into the Doman method format, and use via LR by setting up categories/daily playlists based on Doman schedule for 17 lessons total; and I have to present this booklet conversion project to one of my teachers, Sheikh Muhammad ar-Ra'ee, within a deadline that is fast approaching - and I really need these categories to work).

Also, how do I turn off the feature of "random" media files for ALL categories and playlists at the same time with one click; for both the playback of all words in a category, as well as in each word file of "random playback" for audio files?!?  This automatically enabled feature has messed up the order of multiple soundclips for each image that I have, and I really do not have the time to manually "re-order" the soundclips for literally thousands of images.     How do I disable these two "random" feature in one click for the entire LR program, instead of for each individual word file or in the playback settings of each individual word file for each category/playlist?!?!?!

I really do not think it is too much to expect that every category/playlist that we have in a previous LR version (either manually created or downloaded), should be expected to remain in tact, for all personalized settings and media files, in an upgraded version.

Hi Ayesha,

Can you tell us which version of LR you were using before upgrading to v2, and which LR 2.0 version you are using now?

Please send us two things:

2. Your zipped-up "Backup 1.6" folder. To get this folder:
 - Open Windows Explorer (or open My Computer) and navigate to this folder: C:\ ProgramData \ BrillKids \ System \ Little Reader \ Backup 1.6
 - Compress the entire "Backup 1.6" folder into a *.zip archive and send it to us (since this will be a very large file, kindly label your zip file with your name and upload using: http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/)

Note: Make sure that you have selected to show hidden files/folders in your Windows Explorer window, as some of the folders mentioned in the path above are hidden ones. For further instructions, please go to this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files


To retrieve your media files, find the folder named "Media Library" in your "Backup 1.6" folder and copy all of its contents (or you may copy the entire Media Library folder) and paste these into the following folder: C:\ ProgramData \ BrillKids \ Little Reader \ Media Library

Let me know if this helps resolve your missing media files problem.

About turning off Random Playback or Rotate Media options for many Categories or Playlists simultaneously, try selecting all your Categories or Playlists (or if you have these inside folders, simply select the folders) and you will notice that on the right side of the screen an "Edit" button will appear. Click on this button and the Multiple Edit window will open, and here you can disable the Random and Rotate Media options and apply the changes to all the Categories or Playlists you selected.

Unfortunately, there is no multiple edit function for words (for disabling "Random Pronunciation") in LR yet, so for this part you will need to check and adjust accordingly.

Hi there Kezia,

   I just set up a new category for Noorani Lesson 14, and attached the corresponding / just newly split soundclips i exported from audacity as mp3 files (2 per image), and I cannot hear it in the playback mode, although the audio options are selected; and I also cannot hear the soundclips in the preview pane?!? . . but i can see the files and hear it in the "edit word slide" . . .

 . . and yesterday, before i received your response, i went ahead and reattached Lesson 3 soundclips (because it is a very short lesson), and i will follow your instructions from yesterday in a few moments . . . 

. . . are the two issues connected somehow?     and I did reboot the laptop and the issue is still unresolved.

edit @ 1:12 PM EST > i just figured out that i attached the mp3's for Lesson 14 in the "word slide", instead of the "picture slide"  (silly me); once i reattach these in the proper place, i will follow your instructions from yesterday . . .

edit @ 2:04 PM EST > i reattached the soundclips in the picture slide with 2 mp3s for each picture; and in the playback mode, I select:
- picture only
- 2 (for number of pic/vids shown) > and this used to actually play the two different soundclips that I attached, back to back; and now it just repeats the first soundclip only (and I checked for previous categories and it is doing the same thing?!?); how do i fix this, please?!?    

edit @ 2:10 PM EST > i am confused again    in the playback setttings, i went ahead and selected "rotate media", and it did play both soundclips, back to back, as it used to do before; BUT; does that mean that the actual order of the soundclips will be changed each time from the order that i actually added them to LR? or will they stay in the same order in the picture file audio setup box, just as i set them up originally as:  soundclip 1 = pronunciation; soundclip 2 = spell reading (and for some categories there is a soundclip 3 = pronunciation again)?  as you may recall, the soundlcip order changed before, and it was daunting to have to go and re-order the soundclips again in the correct sequence, and i don't want to inadvertently do that again.    i think i need clarification on the feature of "rotate media" - is that just for playback; or in the actual setup box?

When you enable "Rotate Media," LR will play the next picture / video / sound clip attached to the word the next time you play it. This will also rearrange your media files, such that the media file that just got played will be stacked at the end of the "list" of media files for that word.

With this said, yes, your soundclips will be rearranged when you have "Rotate Media" on -- you may try checking back any word's Edit window to verify this after playing this category and you'll see that the media files got rearranged. Since what you want to do is keep all your media files in the order you want, it may be best to leave "Rotate Media" turned off for your lessons.

By the way, please let me know how it goes when you do my suggestions from my previous post  (about getting your media files back), and send over the files requested so we can investigate further.

Hey there Kezia,

Hmmm - I wish that the "rotate" media would keep the order of the files in the setup window in order - so, for what I am doing, this is problematic for me, because I need them in a certain order; and then I want to switch between either the 1st and 2nd soundclips; or the 1st only for each image; so I suppose I will have to create additional playlists as an alternative - which is twice the work.

And I had some unexpected schedule changes come up this week, and will get around to your suggestions this weekend, when I have a little more time to actually concentrate. 

Another issue, is when I select the playback settings for my 5 daily sets of playlists, I will go from one playlist to another;  and then double-check the 5 playlists settings and find that they are back at the default settings; so I have to reconfigure the playback settings again for a second time?  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for pointing out this issue with "Rotate Media" -- we'll keep that in mind and see how we can add that in the next version

About your Playlist playback settings, can you please clarify if the playback settings for those 5 Playlists are meant to be exactly the same (and you configured the settings for all of them using the Multiple Edit function I mentioned previously), or does each Playlist have a unique configuration? Also, when you say "double-check the 5 playlists settings and find that they are back at the default settings," did it happen right after you changed the settings into what you wanted, or maybe when you opened LR the next session or day?

Hi there Kezia.

With regard to the playlist playback settings, I configured the settings for each playlist (5 total) individually, because I was unaware of the "multiple edit function".      And I once I am done with the 5th set, I will go back to the 1st set to proof the playback settings, and it is as though I never configured it - it shows the default settings?!?  So, I have to reconfigure it again, and then it stays put. 

And I think this morning, it stayed set after the first round of reconfiguration, so, I don't know what is going on. 

And I hope to get to those previous instructions later today.

I cannot remember - or locate - the response to this issue:  I also need to know how to restore a feature i discovered by accident in previous versions of LR - I would have 1 image, and either 2 or 3 soundclips per image; I would select "multiple pics/videos shown = 2 or 3" in the playback settings, and it would display one image and the 1st soundclip; and when I clicked the mouse again, it would display the same image, and play the 2nd soundclip, etc.  Now, since the upgrade to 2.0, when I choose multiple pics/videos show = 2, it will show the image, and play the 1st soundclip twice in a row.      As a result, I will have to create double sets, which is time consuming - and the girls are learning faster than I create their materials.   

Sorry for the redundancy.  Any advice, please?

I think that was when you were asking about the "Rotate Media" function -- here's what I replied about this last time:

When you enable "Rotate Media," LR will play the next picture / video / sound clip attached to the word the next time you play it. This will also rearrange your media files, such that the media file that just got played will be stacked at the end of the "list" of media files for that word.

With this said, yes, your soundclips will be rearranged when you have "Rotate Media" on -- you may try checking back any word's Edit window to verify this after playing this category and you'll see that the media files got rearranged. Since what you want to do is keep all your media files in the order you want, it may be best to leave "Rotate Media" turned off for your lessons.

I am confused - because I thought I could not print words with a custom font?  And when I was looking at the printing options again for a category of "Surah 001 al Fatihah by ayah" - with words only, and I saw the "custom" font as an option, that I wanted before - which is good  - although unsure how this happened?  (screen shot attached)

However, for the printing preview, I wish there was a "double space" between the words option, as well as "right-to-left" for the text direction, and a way to choose the font size, because I want the text of one sentence to be on one line, not multiple lines.

What do you think?

About the custom font for printouts, I'd like to clarify that this is available in the Print screen only as the "Default (Custom Font)" option, which will be there (in the Font selection dropdown menu) only if you have previously set a custom font for the Category/Playlist/Course you are trying to print. So in your case, yes, you should be able to print out your flash cards with the font you wanted to use.

Kindly note, though, that in the Print screen's font option, you cannot select another custom font other than the one currently set for that Category/Playlist/Course -- this is actually what I was trying to say last time, but it seems to have confused you more 

So since you have already set your Categories/Playlists to the custom font you wanted to use, then you should be able to print out your flash cards using that specific font!

Random Order -- this will randomize the words only during playback. The default order of the words in the Category will remain the same, or in the order you have originally set when you created your Category. If you want LR to playback the words in the same order (which I think is what you wanted to happen), then I suggest that you select "According to List" for this playback setting instead.

So for example, your Category has this word list: apple, blocks, curtains

When Random Order is selected, LR may play back your category this way: blocks, apple, curtains OR apple, curtains, blocks OR curtains, blocks, apple etc.
... but the order of the words in the Category itself will remain as "apple, blocks, curtains"


Rotate Media -- as the "media" keyword here indicates, this will "shuffle" the media files (in each word) during playback. Aside from this, you will notice that the order of the media files would have rotated after playing this Category, but will not affect the order of the words in your Category in any way.

Example: for the same category word list, you have this set of media files

apple - pic 1, pic 2, pic 3
blocks - pic 1, pic 2, pic 3
curtains - pic 1, pic 2, pic 3

While Rotate Media is enabled, this is what will happen to the media files after you play this Category:

apple - pic 2, pic 3, pic 1
blocks - pic 2, pic 3, pic 1
curtains - pic 2, pic 3, pic 1

..and after the next playback:

apple - pic 3, pic 1, pic 2
blocks - pic 3, pic 1, pic 2
curtains - pic 3, pic 1, pic 2

etc.


I hope this helps clarify things! Let me know if you are still confused about what these functions do
