KL. I was facing the same problem as sbs above.  I realised that we had to change it to Lrc at filetype selection to get the actual lessons. I am still in the process of downloading as i type this note.  Will be back with my comments.  I am actually downloading the beta  1.6 version right now... so will be back in a bit

Hi, I downloaded LR 1.6 this morning, and then I had to right-click on the forced content file to download - LR did not automatically intercept.  Just wanted to let you know!

I can't see the  UK lessons. That's why I had no lessons

Hmmm, you might! Thanks for pointing that out - very remiss of us for not realizing this possibility! 

If you have personal content in those Categories, EXPORT those Categories and keep in a safe place first.  After the upgrade, RE-IMPORT the Categories back, go to Advanced options, and choose to COMBINE for Category name conflict, and also COMBINE for Word file name conflict.

Secondly, I do seem to have Semester 1 in uk English but there is nothing really there, I have just read it will  be in a short time, that's will be great

Yes, it's not released yet, and like I said, you guys were not meant to have that item in the first place.

Can you tell me what version you were using?  It seems like the file is being opened by Windows Explorer instead of LR.  Best to upgrade to 1.6 first and then try to open/run the file. Can you let me know whether LR 1.6 intercepts it if you open/run the file?

If not, after downloading the file, can you RIGHT-CLICK on the file and choose OPEN WITH, and select Little Reader.

Alternatively, import it manually - go to your Import/Export screen in LR, click "Import", and then find the "BK-LR-en01-Update.lrp" file you just downloaded.

KL, couple of things that might help in case you have any more queries.
No, we dont lose information we have already downloaded - I mean if there are things we have imported in the past
I dont know about any information we might have created ourselves because honestly I have UNDERUTILISED LR a great deal in the past 6 months - but I know I might continue for a couple more years coz my daughter (portia) enjoys it.
Yes, the lessons appear in English US - NOT in English UK (which brings me to the question - is there a way I can get the UK version and NOT the US version).  Not that I dislike american English - but being from India, we were ourselves taught the British English and the British spellings and pretty much our newsreaders (then) would use the British accent.  My preference is the UK english - is there a way I can get this?
Yes, the file appears in the place it has been downloaded in (wherever saved) you only have to change the filetype to get it

BY the way, the new information is BRILLIANT and the Sem2 content is EXCELLENT.... I love it.  I very much doubt I will need to get Tweedlewink or anything else if i have just LR!!!

Everyone,

When you open/run the downloaded content update file, LR should pop-up to intercept it.

If not:

1. Upgrade to 1.6 beta and try again; OR

2. Do a manual import - go to your Import/Export screen in LR, click "Import", and then find the "BK-LR-en01-Update.lrp" file you just downloaded.


DO NOT just rename the file or open it up etc. cos you will quite possibly not be importing everything you should be importing.

Hi, I think I've messed up my LR by making a few mistakes with downloading the new content update pack.

I had made a few changes in a couple of catetories (i'm British and had changed some of the more American terms to UK ones) but just thought that I could change them again in the new content once I'd uploaded the new pack.
For example: In Baby things I had changed Stroller to buggy and diaper to nappy.

However, now since I uploaded the new content (and the new beta version) of LR it all has gone a bit wrong!  In the curriculum all the content and words have reverted to the original ones (US words).  But when I click on the baby things category, all of my changes are still there.

So, I don't know how to make any changes that impact on the words shown in the curriculum / courses.

Please help asap as I am now stuck and can't use LR again until it is all resolved!

LZP11,

The media library files missing would seem to be because you didn't import the update pack properly.  No matter, this can be fixed quite easily.  A BrillKids admin will PM you on Monday to give you a link to download the media files separately to get them plugged in properly.

Regarding the change back to original content, yes, that would happen with some Categories where we made fixes, but not to others where we didn't, hence the seeming inconsistency.  I think I did say:

Maybe I should have made clear that it also applies to any CHANGES made?

btw, we will be offering the British curriculum to all existing users of the US version quite soon.  It will be very similar except for the pronunciations, UK spellings (like "colour"), and usage of British terms.  I think we used "pushchair" instead of "stroller" and not "buggy" though...

MNM, it looks like you're using an old version of LR.  Can you update to the latest 1.6 beta build?  Alternatively, wait till next Monday when should be releasing the final 1.6 build.  After that, importing the update pack should work without any problems.

Thanks for your reply and I look forward to receiving the link to try downloading the files again (I did try several times).
I did realise that importing the data would over-write any changes I'd made but wasn't worried as I hadn't made that many.

But I don't think I described the problem very clearly.  I was expecting the categories (and lessons) to be changed by the upgrade but although there were changes in the lessons, in the Baby Things category, my own personalised changes are still present.  So, the lessons do not match the categories. 

This may be because some of the files are missing and may be fixed when I re-upload the files.  But if not, it means that I can't personalise the lessons any more.  Unless there is another place that I should be making changes in order to affect the content of the lessons (not the categories)?

I hope this makes a bit more sense!

BTW - I think pram, buggy, pushchair could all probably work!  I chose buggy because some of the images looked more like what I would call a pram rather than a pushchair, and was trying to cover all bases, but I'm sure that others would disagree with me!

Hi LZP,

Sorry for the delay in replying! I just PM'd you regarding how to fix the missing media files problem.

The Update pack changes a few things by replacing:

- The entire curriculum content (though only a few changes were made)
- SOME (but not all) of the Categories (where there were errors in one or more of the words, or where we added new videos and pictures)
- some of the media files (like a few animations and pictures)

For example, Action Words categories were some of the Categories that were replaced, but I think Baby Things probably wasn't replaced, and hence your changes would still be there.

If you want everything to be how it was, the best thing to do would be to completely start over and uninstall completely (choosing to delete your current library), and then reinstalling again.  But if you want to do that, give us the next few days till we launch v1.6 officially which should be reasonably stable and where many bugs have been fixed.

But yes, you CAN personalise your lessons. It's just that if you do, try not to change the word file names (change only the word itself) so that the curriculum will always find the correct word file. For example, if the word file name is "bk-stroller" for the word "stroller", then leave the name as "bk-stroller" but change only the word to "pushchair".
