How do I upload/attach a sound clip file in LR?

Dear Everyone,

How do I upload/attach a sound clip file into LR? I don't want to record it myself, but to use pre-recorded file clips produced by my husband for Arabic words.

How to Add a Pronunciation Recording

1. To add your pre-recorded pronunciation of the word, click on NEW in the pronunciation panel (upper panel of New Word Menu).

2. Locate the audio file in your computer.

3. Click Open.

4. Click on PLAY to preview your audio file.

5. The pronunciation will play as the presentation shows the word during playback.

NOTE: Files supported are .mp3, .wav, and .wma.

Hi nhockaday
I would like to check w u does this apply to pronunciation from some of those few websites? As alot of the EK slideshows I can't pronounce properly so I would prefer to add the voice fr there.

It doesn't matter if you get a sound or pronunciation from a website or use your own.

Dear Everyone,

Thanks for the replies. Now I have another quandry.

My husband is recording the Arabic sound clips in Sound Recorder (Windows Vista) and it automatically saves it as a .wma, with no other option to save as .wav, that I am aware of.

I am inserting the sound clips into .ppt and they play sometimes and other times - they don't? I know they will work in LR - but, I need to know how to change the recording format to .wav or how to convert it, please?

Why not just use LR's Easy Voice Recorder to record into mp3?

In any case, yes, it's just a question of finding an audio editor that can open wma and save as different formats. Looks like the one you found will also do the trick.

Dear KL & Everyone,

He likes the simplicity of the Sound Recorder and because he is familiar with it. Also, he does not have LR installed on his laptop, and I suppose we can install it - although I think he will intimidated by it. I will have to teach him how to use it. He records when he is in his office when he has quiet breaks between tasks/meetings.

However, following the instructions from Jake, it was easier than I realized to convert the .wma sound clips to .wav format and inserted into .ppt.

AND they are STILL not playing in .ppt?!? I double-clicked on the .wav sound clip from the folder and it opens in REAL player and Window Media Player - and plays - I can hear it. But not in .ppt?

Why is this?!? As you know I am creating the Arabic words as jpegs in .ppt and wanted to insert the sound clips for those who do not have LR.

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Dear KL & Everyone,

I found a thread with the same issue for another user (to see each response, you have to click the answers individually at the bottom)

Although the sound clips played in other applications, and the sound clips were in the same file folder - I had to move the actual sound clip files higher up in the file structure to the fourth tier and then they played!

Yipppeee! So, I can just use the original .wma files, and I learned how to convert the files if needed.

P.S. The strangest thing just happened - I can now play the original .wma files that are in the .ppt - and still buried in the 5th tier of the file structure? This is what is driving me nuts! Sometimes they play and sometimes they don't and I am uncertain why?!? And for issues like this - I have to KNOW why.

Wow. I was wondering the same and trying out different things. But you sure have Determination.... maybe you were meant to be a genius.... and just did not have LR as a kid

Hi Ayesha,

I'm not entirely sure if this is relevant, but it might be the cause of your audio playback issues. It might also be good to note for when you are saving the PowerPoint files to share with other users.

There is a setting in PowerPoint that causes users a lot of problems when attaching audio, due to a default setting causing all files larger than 100kb to not be embedded within a PowerPoint document. There is a workaround, which you can read about in this (slightly outdated) tutorial:

For PowerPoint 2007, you can find the options they discuss by following the instructions below:

1. Press the Office button in the top-left of PowerPoint
2. Go to PowerPoint Options (at the very bottom-right of the menu, below Close. It's quite easy to miss!)
3. Click on the Advanced Tab and scroll to the bottom.
