Inexpensive laminating machines?

a) is it worth investing in a laminating machine to make cards for various purposes over the course of the early learning years?
b) are the cheaper ones (<$100) good enough?
c) how do you go about laminating your stuff?

I think it is definetly worth it. If you live in the States you can buy a laminator at Walmart for under US$30. I think they are good enough and you probably don't need more than that. Regarding supplies, I get the pouches at www.laminator.com they have buy 2 get 1 free and after shopping around it definetely was the best place to get them. It would depend on the shipping cost though. PY decided to get them at Walmart too since she lives in Alaska and the shipping was way too expensive.

It is worth it and a cheap machine works just fine. The biggest cost is the pouches. I have a good site bookmarked at home. They were one of the cheapest suppliers I could find at the time. I can give you the link later. What do you mean by your third question?

Thanks to Joha for the idea, I actually did buy them at laminator.com, They told me they could sent the package by the post office using flate rate service. instead of UPS. They were really helful I only had to pay $10 for shipping to ALASKA!!! instead of $40.
I am so happy . I have saved a lot of money, I got 300 pouches for $30.00 + $10(shipping).  I saved $60.00.(at wallmart for 50 pouches I pay $15.)  

So THANK YOU JOHA FOR THE IDEA!!YOU SAVED ME MONEY! And also she gave the idea of buying the laminator machine at wallmart..I think I paid $35 or so. It is a good one, last night I laminated like 100 sheets.

I bought my laminating machine at amazon.com Scotch brand for $31.50  it Qualified for the free shipping.
 It had great reviews and  so far works great no complains.

If you buy the larger laminate pouches (e.g. 9 x 11.5 inches), can you laminate several small things in the pouch and cut them into smaller cards, or is it best to buy pouches similar in size to the item you are trying to laminate?

I tried laminating in a large pouch then cutting it up, but I found the edges and corners to be very sharp using 5mil pouches.  I switched to smaller pouches and find it much safer.

NadiaD, I just bought the Scotch laminator you recommended, can't wait to receive it!
I guess I'll get a few different sizes of pouches to accommodate both small flash cards and larger pages of materials.

I do tend to laminate several smaller things in a large pouch and then cut them up. To make corners less sharp, I cut them off with a nail clipper.

Don't attempt cutting a big sheet into smaller parts and then laminating - this is how I lost my first laminator!
