Another product I reviewed that is a bit too advanced for most of the babies here but not that much...so I thought I'd just post it anyway
Math Mammoth
I recently reviewed math mammoth for grade 1.
http://www.mathmammoth.com/The author of this curriculum believes in letting children think for themselves and not just "follow rules" that are presented to them when taught math. She also believes that normal programs are too slow and that children really don't need that much repetition; they only need a handful of review.
The file was sent to me by email, it contained several pdfs and folders and looked a little bit messy at first and I didn't know where to start. You have to read the "read me" file to make sense of it, but when you get to that it is well organized and tells you what everything is for…
First there are the textbooks, each chapter in the textbook starts with an overview for parents on how the chapter should be taught and what it includes. This is very convenient since there's no separate teachers' book or anything. The first chapter has also games with objects and cards that enforce and practice the lessons learned, as well as helpful internet resources. After that it proceeds to the worksheets right away. They are simple and colorful and make use of pictures and drawing dots …etc (not only numerals) and are ample in amount. There's also a separate answer-key pdf with answers to the problems on the worksheets. The last two chapters take on a more practical side with reading the clock and counting coins and money. The chapter about money is also available in Canadian money and European money in addition to the original American money.
There's a test pre-made for every chapter and an end of the year test if you would like to do tests; with a grading system and all . There are also pre-made cumulative reviews for concepts from several chapters combined as the child proceeds through the curriculum. Otherwise there's a tool that generates worksheets that fit your specific needs within the concepts taught in the curriculum. You can adjust the worksheet generated for values, symbols, techniques and many more. It's a very versatile worksheet and I loved it. It's ideal for controlling what is shown to your child based on what they have learned and what they haven't yet. There are also extra pre-made sheets online if you don't have time for all the extra effort. The only problem with these is that they open in a webpage so you can only print them directly or copy and paste but not save. Either way they might need some adjustments to fonts and relay and so on. I pasted worksheets into word fine with no problems.
In my opinion, there's nothing unusual about this program but it's very practical and very affordable and already set up and organized for you. Check it out.
