Hi Wennie!

Wow! What a wealth of information!  Thank you so much for taking the time to post the instructions.  It has given me (and I am sure others) insight into what the program can offer.  As a grandparent I am so thrilled to have found BrillBaby and its fantastic forum.  Such a change from when I raised my two girls!  Keep up the good work everyone.  Together we will raise healthy happy intelligent children.

We got our DVDs today.  My son was a bit antsy when they were changing topics because that was fairly slow.  But, at the end, he did ask for it again.  I guess we will see how it goes but it is great that they cover so many topics in such a short amount of time.  The first lesson was the basics and he knew most of that so that may have contributed to him being antsy.  I'll post on our progress.

Hi Cassidy,
The children may be uninterested in lesson if they are familiar with it.

This is an indication for us to change lesson. For my daughter with tweedlewink intially I showed her 3 times, but observered she was not not interested all the times and now a days I show like one lesson once in the cycle and will be repeating the cycle once they are overand she is really eager with tweedlewink now.
But I would say there are really Good.Hope your son enjoys them aswell

We watched one again today and I figured out that he doesn't like the affirmations.  They just go to slow for him.  If I fast forward past them, he is happy until they come up at the end again.  I wished he liked that part, but I'm sure he is getting something out of watching the rest of it. I think they are great because they cover topics I would never think to explain to him.  They also get him to learn about things that may not be his favorite topics - things he wouldn't sit to watch on the computer.  I will get more of the videos and I think they are certainly worth the money.

Would not it help if you give him a warm hug and tell him with your words and voice how much you love him and how much he can do and achieve? Big hugs and kisses time during affirmations would be nice time for both of you and you may not need to fast forward. We do it every time we watch it.  smile

We received our TweedleWink package and after paying the nice post lady an extra $50 (a caution to any Canadians here thinking of purchasing - figure this Customs grab into the final price), eagerly dove in.

I'm sorry to say that this was anticlimactic. Marina seems irritated by the music, objects to the art category and is only happily interested during the perfect pitch segment. We are on to Lesson 8 tomorrow if she's feeling better (she hasn't even wanted Signing Time the last couple of days!?!), so I have managed to slip them in there, usually while I'm making her breakfast in the morning.

I'm afraid my opinion isn't much better. There's a lot of emphasis in the book about presenting your child with "quality" images and sounds, but the dvd's do not live up to this. Perhaps the file sizes of pictures used weren't big enough - sometimes severe pixilation occurs. In Lesson 2, the reproductions of Monet's work are nearly unrecognizable. The sound quality is poor with the exception of the Perfect Pitch section - I just pray the pitch is perfect - a nasty trick to teach the kid pitch that isn't perfect... I will be checking this tomorrow with my tuner. I feel I have to because I've noticed other things that aren't correct. For example, in Lesson 7, the Culture section is about Canada. The slide named Northern Lights looks suspiciously like Niagara Falls at night. I wonder how many other mistakes there are.

If I didn't have this worry about the accuracy of the content, I would say the content is excellent, but I do and that's a big problem. Also, if you are going to charge top dollar for a program and are incapable of top quality production values, you should hire someone who is. And hire as many people as you need to to check, check, and check for accuracy.

I don't have an issue with the quality, I just wish he liked it.  We watch a video each morning while I check my email and this morning he said he didn't want one.  I've been playing it the last 3 days so I know it is because he didn't want that one.  I bought 2 of them so I'm going to make sure he watches them both, but I don't think I'll be getting any more.  We got a Brainy Baby from the library yesterday and he is sitting there mesmorized by it right now.  He also loves the YBCR.

I'm so disappointed because I like the idea of this series - guess I need to find something else.

You might want to reintroduce to your child a month later, he might react to it differently.

Hi, I am new to this forum.  I am very interested about Tweedle Wink DVDs.  However, my son is already 4 1/2 and my daughter is 3 now.  They both go to Montessori preschool.  My son just begin able to read some beginner books, like Green Eggs and Ham.  Will it be too late to introduce them Tweedle Wink?  Will they feel boring?  Does anybody have any experience on showing Tweedle Wink to that age group?  I know Wink is designed for older kids.  Did anyone try Wink?  I can only find sample for Tweedle Wink in their website.  So, I don't know how Wink look like and how to choose.  I also saw some discussions on their overview course and the program manual.  Are they two separate things?  Will they be benefit for older kids too?  Thanks for any advice!

Hi,

Tweedle wink if for 0-6 years old.  smile

I think it's not yet too late for your children.  Because mostly in preschools they are more on left brain learning.
You can use tweedle wink to tap again the right-brain.

Hi, FW:

This is Wennie from Right Brain Kids. I just posted an answer to a similar question like yours last night. I guess there are many different places on the Forum people ask similar questions, so you can look under early learning --> general discussion --> Right Brain Training and see our answer.

Hello everyone, Happy Monday !!

Well my experience is quite different in regards the tweedle wink and wink programs - I have a 4.5 year old girl who loves them; she loves the music part, she loves the art part, she loves the series. I am not sure what the circumstances of other children are but allow me to share my experience:

Before Doman, I used to buy these kind of materials hoping that somehow they will give me a break; meaning I wanted the dvd to provide my daughter with education while I was either working,  cleaning, preparing meals or whatever...... BIG Mistake!

What I have discovered (the more I read about Right Brain, Doman and Shichida the more I am convinced about this principle)  - IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW GOOD THE DVDs are!!   if you are not spending good quality time with your child at the time of presenting the dvd it will never deliver the kind of right brain education it is designed to deliver.

We play the tweedle wink early in the morning basicaly in bed as soon as she gets up, she comes to my bedroom, we cuddle and I play a lesson of TW, photo eye play and play with memory games and bits, all takes less than 20 minutes then we go on with cleaning and breakfast then bits and so on with the day - the amount of materials that she absorbs while she is happy, rested and relaxed is amazing !  she is an extremely energetic girl who is in gymnastics, play the violin, speak 2 languages, is learning 2 more, has memorized in 3 weeks over 220 stories with their respective pictures and in order - I find it very interesting that she loves speed for everything yet she enjoys tremendously the pace of these dvds.

In regards the quality of the pictures I dont have a problem with them, they are clear and completely identifiable to us. (I have HDTV) I wonder if it could be a case of tv set up.. ..just food for thought.

Hope this helps.

Gloria.

ps:  if anyone ever finds a product that is 1000% perfect pls let me know !!  so far I have not found any. That being said I am very glad I invested in these dvds and audios.  I guess we all have to judge by ourselves.

Hi, LongTallDri:

I'm so sorry that you were disappointed with your purchase.  I've been asked to respond to you directly--and I'm so happy that you wrote to let us know of your concerns.  In the world economy, right now especially, every family purchase counts.

Pixelation of Monet

Yes, depending upon your television, some pixelation can occur.  You see, TweedleWink Lessons 1-12 were made during the pre-HDTV (and pre-DVD) era.  For example, Monet's works show up really well on a 20" flat screen and a larger 32" older non-flat screen television.  The images tend to stretch on large-screen TVs, especially those with HDTV, and therefore some of them may pixelate. Older televisions use technology that is 72 dpi (dots per inch).  Now technology is introducing much higher dpi.

You may find that the later versions are better that way.  When HDTV was introduced, we had the choice of either going back to redo the earlier versions and stop the production of Lessons 20-48, or just go forward.  We posed the question to our online parent community and the response was overwhelming: "No!  Please finish the 48-week lesson plan!  Our children are ready for the next lessons."  So, that is what we are doing.

Perfect Pitch

You asked about the Perfect Pitch segment.  The musical notes were performed on grand piano by pianist Dean Anderson in Livingston, Montana.  The reason we chose the grand piano is because it was mentioned by Dr. Maria Montessori as one of the highest instruments to use when teaching pitch.  (When teaching pitch live, it's best to use bells, xylophones or tuning forks because they retain their pitch.)

When you check how the pitch has stood up to digitization with your tuner, you can use these frequencies as your guide:

C 261.6Hz
C# 277.2Hz
D 293.7Hz
D# 311.1Hz
E 329.6Hz
F 349.2Hz
F# 370Hz
G 392Hz
G# 415.3Hz
A 440Hz
A# 466.2Hz
B 493.9Hz
C 523.3Hz

Northern Lights Over Niagara :-)

We take every comment that comes in seriously--and correct it as soon as we can--in order to make the next batch better.  Regarding the Northern Lights photograph in the Canadian culture piece, it is in Lesson 7 (DVD 2) which has been published and in circulation to schools and homes since October, 2003.  This is the first question submitted regarding this photograph, so we will check it out.  The photograph is a donation from a photographer living in Fairbanks.  (I live on the other side of the continent, actually my hometown is in rural upstate New York, 2.5 hours away from Niagara Falls.  It's so beautiful there.  Are you nearby as well?  If so: "Hello, neighbor!"

Fact Checking

You are absolutely correct.  Every image creates an important connection in the brain.  So we do our very best to make sure that the children are receiving the best information we can provide.  We have a small circle of editors to help review each DVD before it is released.  Of course, we are not perfect and, sadly but honestly, we do make mistakes from time to time.  We duplicate DVDs in low quantities which allows us to update them as we go.

High Cost

$34.95 is a lot to spend on a DVD, it's true.  We're hoping that parents will view this as a tool, and not see it as an edutainment DVD.  After years of making flashcards ourselves, we know the value of time and money saved through the use of the DVD lessons.  Our school budget used to be consumed with expenses of either purchasing sets of printed cards at $15/set or in buying the card stock, prints, glue and lamination to make our own.  We had a real production center going to keep cards going into our 0-6-year-old program!  But, thankfully, in our case, we did not have to add in labor costs.  In our school in the 1980's and 90's, all the parents pitched in to make the original 48-week flashcard sets that are the inspiration for the DVD series.  The cards took up 2 whole rooms for storage!  We checked out the cards to each classroom in a library-type system.  Everything was created with much love and community spirit.

So, that is the humble beginning and honest energy and intention behind this series.  We're really, really not a big money-making machine. :-)  Our profits need to go right back in to the company to keep up with production costs for the next DVDs waiting in the wings.

Marina

But what is most important is how your daughter reacted to the DVD.  If she is not interested in viewing the DVDs, then I would encourage you to stop.  (It sounds like you are a very intuitive mother and would anyway, by the way you watch for her reactions.)  If she views it with joy, then these images will be recorded as happy memories.  If not, then it's a good idea to stop.  If she senses any stress, then the right brain pathway can close.

I do hope that these answers were helpful to you.  If you have any further questions or concerns, please do write back.  We're always happy to help!

Kindly,

Pamela
