EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Dolch Words

Hi All, As I was having a creative/writer's block while planning my lessons and materials ahead of time, I realized that the Doman method is a bascially a children's "learning to read" version of "Magnetic Poetry". And interestingly enough, among their many themed sets, there are children's versions > http://www.magpo.com/ . I then decided to search for various frequently used word-lists in the English language and came across the top 100/500/1,000, etc. I already have these lists for the Classical Arabic language since my husband is a master of the Arabic language (classical/modern or standard/colloquial or regional dialects). I was encouraged when I found the English lists broken down by nouns, action verbs, modifiers, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, etc. And then I was exceedingly happy to find Mrs. Perkins Dolch Words site that is further categorized by school year, It even has a "phrase generator" using the words. And she has many books listed that can be used as guideline to create homemade/LR/.ppt presentations. It basically covers all the steps in "How to Teach Your Baby to Read", which is what I was looking for. Now, I just have to wait for my supplies to come in and I am ready for both the Arabic and English languages. Sincerely, Ayesha

ASAWRWB Nohayo, This is Ayesha Nicole, a mother of twin girls - 19 months. I am sooo excited to have found your Arabic forum! I am married to an Egyptian that is a master of the Arabic language, as well as a hafidh ul-Qur'an, masha'Allah. I wish I knew more Arabic than I do, however, I want him to guide me as we teach the girls Qur'anic Arabic using the Doman method. When trying to explain to him about the methodology, this site, and Little Reader, I was frustrated because, if he reads it in Arabic, it is easier for him since it is his first language. I plan to teach the girls Qur'anic Arabic, insha'Allah, using the flashcards to plant the seed of a love of the Qur'an, insha'Allah. There is a good site with English Word-for-Word translation of the Qur'an here > http://emuslim.com/Quran/Translation_English.asp to help me with individual words and the translation, that may be useful for others. How are you using Little Reader and what have your experiences been with the Doman Method (reading/language/math/music/physical)? Please feel free to type back in Arabic and my husband will read it and translate for me, insha'Allah. Until then, take care. JAK ASA Ayesha USA

Good Evening All,
My name is Ayesha Nicole and I am the mother of twin 19-month old girls. I am preparing my materials ahead of time, in order to teach my children how to read using the Doman Method. I have read the book and am reviewing Chapter 7.
I feel a little overwhelmed as I am attempting to create five sentences to form a themed book, and then break it down into phrases, couplets, and word sets. In the video from the Deluxe Set, Mrs. Doman emphasized going from words to books as soon as possible. Apparently some parents get stuck in the word/vocabulary stage for some time. I think it is cylical process with more words that become more complex each time you recreate the steps. Is this correct?
Any examples would be great. I will have to look around the site to get a better idea of what others are doing - and I hope to attend the Intelligience Course at the end of March 2009 at IAHP.
Thanks so much. Sincerely, Ayesha
