EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / What would you buy NOW? Ipad2 Xoom Galaxy?

I bought a XOOM Motorola but had to cancel cause it took to much time to arrived. Now i am evaluation if i will go to Ipad 2, Xoom (new will come out soon) or Galaxy Samsung. Several month have pass since the androids came out. Is the APP market big enough to compete with IPAD2?
If you had to make that decision now, which one is your choice?

As we can see, you had a very difficult task trying to select the best ones. I specially was impressed with Owen that even though he did not seems to speak being just 16 month, he did a wonderful job choosing the correct answer. This gave me more ideas on how to interact later on with my grandaughter. Congratulations Owen' mom. Also i think Hannah at her 19 month is incredible good. i hope my grandaughter will sometime be somewhat like her.
Congratulations to all the kids, moms and dads for such an excellent job in teaching their kids.
Thanks a lot to Brillkids for the extra price for a Volume of the Fables. I am exited in waiting for instructions on how to redeem them.
BTW if someone has the 2 fable volumes and wants to give me their discount voucher code i will be more than happy to receive them. Congrats to all and enjoy teaching.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Plannig to introduce abacus to 4 jr old

I start veiwing the youtube videos on abacus addition and subtraction but i am not convinced if this can be taught at such an early age as 4 years old. So far what i have seen is that you need to work a lot on complements of 10 and of 5 in order to do the math. Are any of your kids working with abacus ? If so, what age are they and when did they started. Please i would appreciate if you can share your experience?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Plannig to introduce abacus to 4 jr old

I received this week an abacus and start reading more about it. I would like to teach my 4 yr (almost 5) grandson.
I am afraid that it will create some dependency on it and will not be able to do the math wihout it. I am consious that kids start adition with their fingers but they are available at all times.
Are there any kids using it? Any tips? Thanks.

Kezia, I have 2 grandsons using LR but since they are in different homes, each one is on a separate computer and only once in a while we use a PC for both of them.
Do you know if there are any plans for including this functionality on future version of LR?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Help with Learning Chinese
|

Amelia,
I haven't start Chinese with my grandaughter but i have been using it for myself (maybe trying to be ahead of her). My daughter has decided to wait cause she is doing LR in english, Little Pim in French and we are native spanish speakers. Since i do not have previous knowledge of Chinese maybe your case is similar to mine.
I hope sharing what i am planning to do will help and someone that know more can correct me is something can be done better. While flashing the words I do my best with the pronunciation and repeat. When in the multisensory part I explain in english or spanish and go on. On the third part just listen while the images are shown.
I understood from other threads that even our pronunciation is not as good as it should be, the baby will pick up the correct pronunciation that will be said randomly by a man, woman and girl.
Believe it or not, I am starting to recognize some simbols but have to say that my pronunciation is terrible and my dedication is not as it should be. Hope you share your experience when you start.
