DrPrimo,
I live in Brazil and here there isn´t this kind of IQ test, the child just need to be old enough to get in kindergarden, and follows normally it as the other classmates, but here there is a test which starts in high school specifically in 1st year after the 8th grade, and the students do it until the 3rd year, they get a mark every year that will sum in the end of 3rd year. Using this mark, the students can get in an university according to the pontuation acquired, they have the oportunity of a better university. The name of this test used here is: ENEM.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Baby sleeping - Does your baby still cry at night?
|

Parents,
I was looking for an information how to solve my problem at night, so that I have a baby 1y and 5m who is crying so much every night and I step by this article, maybe it can help other parents because in my case I think I am late or maybe not. From now I decided to change my way and test...
A Part of the article:
Parenting and infant sleep. Sleep medicine reviews 2010;14(2):89-96. Infant sleep undergoes dramatic evolution during the first year of life. This process is driven by underlying biological forces but is highly dependent on environmental cues including parental influences. In this review the links between infant sleep and parental behaviors, cognitions, emotions and relationships as well as psychopathology are examined within the context of a transactional model. Parental behaviors, particularly those related to bedtime interactions and soothing routines, are closely related to infant sleep. Increased parental involvement is associated with more fragmented sleep. Intervention based on modifying parental behaviors and cognitions have direct effect on infant sleep. It appears that parental personality, psychopathology and related cognitions and emotions contribute to parental sleep-related behaviors and ultimately influence infant sleep. However, the links are bidirectional and dynamic so that poor infant sleep may influence parental behaviors and poor infant sleep appears to be a family stressor and a risk factor for maternal depression.

If you intend to work, I advise you to find someone to help with your housework or else you´ll be stressed and your child doesn´t deserve it. You can put on a scale and measure if it compensates to work or not, depending where you live in. In my case, I work, but I have a trustful homemade.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Sling the baby: Do you wear this technique?
|
on: April 10, 2010, 06:00:53 PM

Dear parents,
I read an article about the importance of sling the baby. The first point is that the baby can be very near the mom´s body or dad´s body. Second point is that the parents back and arms don´t hurt so much. They said that 54% of the babies cry less at night and 43% during the day, the colics can reduce, the baby can look the world around him and others benefits, when they are in a sling. Here where I live we don´t have the costume to wear it but I´d like to know if in your country you wear and what is your opinion about it.
Another point is that the baby with 10% of thw mother´s weight can be slinged.
The article I found is in Portuguese at:www.guiadobebe.uol.com.br

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Kids and exercise

My children sleep early and wake up early too. I think they exercise all day, because we play all the time and this year my older one started to study at school, so, there she also exercises. Everything must be taught, how to eat well and even to understand some foods can bring bad effects to our life, to our teeth, it is unhealth or not, but children don´t need to be adult enough to worry with it, mainly because, who feeds them are we:parents. So, our part is take care of everything they do.
