I found substituting words all the time too confusing so at this age I just showed 10 cards for about five days then changed them all out for a new set of cards. I usually showed 10 cards with a similar theme however showing sets of five cards with different themes would be fine too - trust that your little one will learn very quickly.

Love that Skylark!  I have some rings, a hanging bar & a swing to attach to ours but that gives me some more ideas!  I love how compact that one is but still has so many activities.

I did get my brachiate in ladder done & as far as space, we didn't really have a lot but I put it alongside dd's loft bed. You could even suspend it over a regular kids bed & I've even heard of parents putting it over their own beds to save space.

My dd's neurodevelopmental program has by far been the most helpful thing for her development. We've mainly seen results with Longvida curcumin & L carnitine. She does have a pretty clean diet though which I'm sure is also a factor. She used to have Nutrivene D as a T21 specific multi vitamin but now gets the new MSB + which is also made for kids with T21.

I have talked to lots of other parents that have had much better results with supps.

I bet she does understand more than she lets on & once she starts signing she will likely pick them up faster & faster. Just because she isn't using the signs doesn't mean that she doesn't understand just that she isn't ready to output the information. 

This is a great time to start on reading & it's possible they she may be getting a head start that you aren't aware of!  We were teaching sight words at the same age that dd was watching Signing Time & eventually realized that she was learning to read the words that they showed while teaching each sign!  I also  know of another little boy who was not being taught sight words but as a preschooler taught himself quite a few sight words from the videos. Once his parents realized they started teaching him more words & he was reading well before he started school.

A_OttDahl - that's amazing! We didn't know that our dd had T21 until after she was born so I did nothing other than regular prenatal vitamins. We have used TNI but we've seen by far the hugest advances with her neurodevelopmental program.

Paddy Jim Baggot MD - Because we didn't know for sure before dd was born I won't be much help with your case study however I'd love to hear more about it.

Hi everyone!

I am curious about teaching math facts. We are working on simple addition & subtraction right now. It would be very easy to fast flash math facts & have my daughter memorize them but I want her to be able to figure the equations out for herself. If I taught the facts I think she probably wouldn't want to put the effort into figuring them out.  The reason I am wondering about this is the other day when I as in the grade 1-3 classroom (yes our school is triple graded    ) they had math facts on the board for kids to memorize.  I'd love to hear everyone's input on this!

My dd was only 6 months when we started with very large red word cards. By 15 months we were certain that she was reading words. It's not too early to start.
