"Joha and Skylark, I will shorten the session to 5 numbers and equations seperately.. So maybe we aren't able to do the program as fast as proposed (because 9 sessions math a day is too much for me to organise). "You can always try to skip two dots sessions, some other people here mentioned it worked for them.... Doing 1 and 2nd 5 cards sessions in order; then 3 and 4th randomly, and skipping another 2 random sessions. It should be OK, since you will be continuing showing these cards to your child afterwards as part of equasions... It also was difficult for me to plan 9 separate sessions. What worked for me ( Thank you, Trinity Papa for suggestion), I have each session with two sets of 5 numbers ( so it is in fact session 1 and session 2), I show the first set, then switch activity and do some other activity for a few minutes, usually some action, or something very different from the math dots, and then do the second 5 number set from the given session. This way works the best for me, as we are out a lot due to my work, and sometimes can not do much "official" school time for large portions of the day. About Red DotsI created my sessions in LR, and customised them using red dots only, as I feel it works better for my daughter and helps her to concentrate, somewhat of a uniformed approach. You can download the pre-sets that I made at http://forum.brillkids.com/downloads/?cat=218And here I explained the details about these pre-sets : http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-math/gd-math-dots-sessions-available!-updated/ Hope it will be a help....

I created my own equasions and put them into the schedule. I also modified schedule a little bit in a way that I introduced equasions after we reached 40, not 20 ( just to keep the session fast and get myself some time to organise, ) From what I understood, one of the important factors is to keep sessions VERY short. Doman suggests only 5 numbers per set/session, and also to keep equasion as a separate sessions, from what I understood ( correct me if I am wrong). I am very very tempted to combine sessions because my daughter really enjoys it now and takes it all in. But that is where a possibility of future non-interest might come, when we put too much in each session. I guess that was the reason I created my own pre-sets, based on that council from oters and from Doman, to keep sessions very short ( not 10 numbers, but five), and keep them ( all nine ( or seven if you chose to do only 2 random numbers session) all separate) So trying to keep it very short, and rapidly going to some other activity, that child enjoys, might help you to integrate the math in your routine, while not making a big deal of it in the eyes of the child. But.... it all goes in. I really hope it will be working for you I am sure you are doing a great job, and sometimes we just dont see results right away

"Once you press 'save as', it will ask you to specify a new name. Type a name, press OK, and it will be right next to the original preset. After I close it and open it again, it's still there for me."
So I did that,... the ones I exported after doing it and before closing the program, were there; the ones that I "saved as", etc, but not exported were not there...
I guess for now I will be just exporting them, since I am going to upload them anyway... But thought to let you know

I only did it in learn numbers.... And it happened a few times in a row. However, , if I export the same pre-sets... next time I open the program, they are there.... I have a suspicion I am doing something wrong, not the program... So for now I just export all of them

I am not sure if it was covered anywhere already. I looked, but did not seem to find the answer When I create pre-set in LM, using another present, making a modification, and then "saving as", it shows as a preset originally, but then when I close the program and open it again, it is not there.... What do I do wrong? Thank you in advance!

LITTLE MUSICIAN
Little Musician will teach a child:
Sing Along - This is essentially a baby karaoke, letting them sing along to nursery rhymes. The best part is, this will also really help a child learn to read too!
......!
If you have any suggestions as to what we can include, please let us know!
KL
Thank you for working on it! Great great idea. Would it be possible to use the songs of our choice in a "baby karaoke" style, like you mentioned about nursery rhymes? For example to have a possibility to import our MP3 file of the song, and then to type in words line by line in a LM editor of sorts, which would make it easy to synchronize them with the music? What about option of having a recorder incorporated so that parents who are musicians themselves can possibly record a song for a child with their own voice and make it in a "baby karaoke" style? Personalization is so important, so it will be great to have this option! Or a possibility to enter a simple sequence of notes ( melody) and play it back with the note that plays at the moment being highlighted or followed by an arrow. (Entering can be done either by a mouse on the “virtual keyboard” in the program; or through the assigned keys on the PC keyboard, or trough plugging in the actual keyboard to computer.. I am not sure which would be the easiest to incorporate … just ideas) Would it be possible to have notes and combination of notes played by various musical instruments? (EG, guitar, violin, piano, chello, trumpet, etc.), this way it will be possible to: introduce child to different musical instruments, teach musical recognition, keep lessons and learning individual notes fun and interesting, since there will be variety of sounds for the same note. Also it will possibly work to have a preset option, where we can chose combinations of notes to play, which musical instruments we would like to use for that, etc. Similar how in Little Math we have presets with the voice reading numbers in different languages, but then we can use those pre-sets in indefinite number of ways – equations, progression of numbers, random, etc. This way there will be lots of possibilities for using it. It will be nice also to include photos of different musical instruments, possibly with short bits of information about them Will be great to have a diagram of a piano/guitar with the notes, showing how notes relate to the piano keyboard/guitar… Possibility of printing out those diagrams to post on the walls or use as flashcards possibly can be a useful option When the notes are introduced, it will be nice to have an option to show the child where these notes are located on the piano keyboard/guitar ( etc.) and how they sound (possibly picture or animation), how they are played in full notes, half notes and quarter notes. Basic scales and chords progressions, it will be nice to have an option in pre-sets to highlight the notes that child is learning or learned so far, while showing scale or chord, or chord progression, so they see it, hear it and see how the notes they just learned or are learning fit into certain scale…. Another things that go more along with learning to read and recognize music and beginning playing… Symbols for a whole note, half note, quarter note, and an eighth note; introducing a measure and a bar line; the staff and grand staff symbols; the sharp, flat, and natural symbols, how these symbols affect the notes and keys that are played; the Treble or G Clef and the Bass or F Clef, showing which hand to use to play which notes on a keyboard; rests, showing where notes are not played; concept of a beam to tie notes together; key signature, which shows you what keys are played as a sharp or a flat; time signatures, which shows the child how many beats are in a measure, and what note is equal to one beat; etc… These are just some ideas... What do you think?

Here is the link to the article about introducing solids by Sears http://www.askdrsears.com/html/3/T032000.aspIt explains about the timeschedule for it, ideas, ways to do it. It also explains the reasons why it is not so good to introduce solids too early due to possible allergies. There are also some ideas about what to introduce first, and how to know when you baby is ready. With breastfeeding you definetly can not go wrong, as it gives baby the best possible nutrition start. So I would not worry too much about that.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: question about Doman math dots sessions
|

OK, now as we are about to start equasions... ( I am delaying the onset of equasions till 50, so I have a little time to figure it out myself ), I have a question: From what I understood, Doman suggests we do not use symbols like +, =, -, etc It is pretty simple to do if you got paper cards ( which I hope I would have some time soon to use for problem solving ), but if I am using LM, is it possible to "programm" the action, like "plus", so the voice says it, but would not show the actual sign. Anyone who did it, can you give me advice? Is there a principal difference in using or not using these symbols. Those who read the books, please advise! I can see that one reason of not using symbols in paper flash cards, would be to make it go faster and to flow ( it is easier to flash 3 cards then 5!) However, it also makes sense that may be child is making more progress if the symbols are not shown, but just said, since child does not "have to have" symbol written in order to associate it with the action... Just wondering. Of course in LM, it is easy to use symbols, but would it make more difficult for child later? Thank you in advance!
