I was fortunate to learn to read as a young child. I was able to read flash cards at 2 and parts of the newspaper by 4 years old. (Not quite as young as a lot of babies here but still at an advantage) I am very grateful to my Mom who introduced me to learning and reading so young that I have had a love for learning all my life. I definitely found it beneficial in my schooling career and feel that it is the least that I can do for my child. Somehow my Mom helped instill an actual love for learning which a lot of my friends didn't have. My opinion with regards to nerds: nerds are people who study hard but if you are advanced and don't have to put as much work in because you were taught something previously and are still successul, you aren't a nerd ;-) I don't find the time to read as much as I would like to but my biggest form of relaxation or holiday that I would desire, is to just put my feet up and read a book. So, reading is something that I enjoy. I would love to give my little girl the gift of a love for learning and if she is capable to take in so much as a baby, then why not!?

Hello
You can definitely create your own lessons in your own language. I'm new here too so won't be able to tell you how to do it. You can record your own voice & insert your own pictures. This is one of the main reasons I bought LR & LM.
Members also upload files they have made so perhaps you can find somebody from your country who has made sample lessons. It's great that your child can learn from your own voice as well as pictures or subjects applicable to you.
I'll let you know more once I've tried a few myself.
Good luck!

Hi NadiaD
I just watched your little daughter reading on your blog! What a little star! You must be so proud of her!
I'm looking forward to the day that my little one can read like that but I'll definitely be patient! I don't want her to grow up too quickly! Although she surprises me each day with how much she can do already at 3 months old!

Hello Skylark I was searchinig for some "learn to speak Chinese" information and saw that you had researched a bit in 2009. Have you managed to teach your little one Chinese and at what age did you start? Do you know of many others who have no exposure to Chinese who have managed to teach their children anything? I am really keen for my daughter to learn because there is a lot of business in Africa that will have a need for Chinese speaking people in the future. I don't want to overdo it but will try teach her now while she is young because I need to go back to work when she is 8 months old. Hopefully my Mom can continue to teach her when I am back at work on the days that I'm not around. Thanks!
