Hi nhockaday and nohayo,
According to the overview, the best time is when your baby (kid) is using his/ her unconscious mind. This is when he/ she is sleepy, or when baby is in a very relaxing stage. If your baby still crawls, play the DVDs / play classical music/ play foreign language when they are crawling because this is when he/ she is using the right brain.
Your baby doesn't need to sit still when you are playing the dvd, they can even be bouncing (especially when he/ she is a kinesthetic learner). It's okay if they miss some of them... after all, it's only 8 mins per lesson and they will absorb majority of it. The guideline to keep them focus is really to put the baby beside you or on your lap and to watch with them - they said relationship before result. This is a good time to bond with your kid.
The lesson is designed to be played 1-3 times before you go onto the next. Yes, I do one a day and sometimes add some lessons from the math/ phonics/ language another time during the day. I go back to lesson 1 when all lessons are finished. Yes, the lesson DVDs all have a mix of content like the sample ( except for the math/ phonics/ languages which have their own focus). In fact many materials are new/ advance to me. To answer the question why we show them advanced knowledge at this stage, I think what we should ask is "why not" instead of "why". To the kids learning quantum physics is the same as learning 1,2,3. If they are learning in their right brain mode between 0 and 6 years old, they will absorb every knowledge like a sponge. Don't let conventional thinking block the development of our future! Kids really have no limit. The only limit that they have is the limit we put on them.
Anything else?? I would say is try to make it fun and interactive. If they lose focus, try to refocus them by pointing at something they are interested in the lesson, like "look! that's a flower!". I taught my son to pat his chest every time the DVD says "I am special/ I am loved" and now he does it on his own every time! Praise them well done and hug them in the end so they are looking forward to it.
Have fun and enjoy!
Teresa

Hello nohayo, No, I am not worrying about the mixing up at all. I have heard that they will separate the languages when they are older. My daughter spoke 3 languages in 1 sentence when she was about 2 and we laughed at her. Now we caught her speaking 2 languages in 1 sentence sometimes. I am a strong believer that more language exposures will give the little brain more stimulations. It's still beneficial even if they will forget the usage when they get older. Of course if they still remember it's the best case! Teresa

Hi nohayo,
What Pupisek said was correct. In order to stimulate the right brain, you need to flash the card FAST (1 per second). Otherwise it will be left brain learning which requires repetition.
Of course we will take every chance to educate our kids, like talking to them and showing them names of different things or what we are doing to boost their vocabulary. What KL said about introducing action words are absolutely right! This is something the speech pathologist asked me to do more with my son. :tongue2:

Hi Miriam,,
I totally agree with Lappy and nohayo. You only need 10 minutes to go through the education part and the kid can play for the rest of the day. I have a mix of real flash cards, powerpoint flash card slideshow and flash card DVDs and my 19 months old son likes them all. This is a perfect time to bond with the kid so have your cousin hold the baby when they are going through the cards or give them a hug for "good job" after it's done. Baby will love it!

I visited the babyplus website a few months back and I do believe it will make a calm baby. However I did not buy it because it only uses heart beat. I think we can do a little more like mom doing meditations daily and listening to classical music in her pregnancy. I am going to do that to my baby in the womb now!

Maddy and nhockaday, you are very welcome!
I bought the 4-series teleseminar initially (I don't think they are offering it anymore but they put the recording in a CD for sale) and it gave me an overview on how right brain works, how to set up a right brain learning environment and when is the best time of the day for right brain training etc. I did not buy the manual. I just bot the DVD set knowing that I have to play to them 1-3 times before going on to the next lesson.
I am attaching an email that they sent to me on a two-year-old child memorizes 2000 Cards in 2 months. We actually decided to buy the DVDs after reading this email... so powerful!
> Dear Teresa, > > We hope that your family is well and happy. > > We had to share this with you. It came in recently > from a mother of one. > > She writes: > > "Thank you for the DVDs. EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: The Great Debate - Teaching our kids so early

As everyone said, I believe we all want to give the best to our kids. I think as an adult, we are being brain washed into a concept that "learning is painful", and therefore "forcing" a baby to learn is "evil"! When my parents saw me showing flash cards to my kids, they still say that I don't have to teach them so much at this early age. They said the most important thing is for the kids to be healthy, happy and stress free... and they think I am giving them STRESS!
I agree that being healthy and happy is important, but I disagree that teaching baby will make them unhappy. To the little ones, learning is like playing. My 19 months old son enjoys doing anything together with me, including his learning. He likes flash cards (DVD or real one) so much that he will ask me for it! It also builds up his confidence along the way. He really enjoys showing off his knowledge by speaking out what he sees now. This is just so much fun for him.
Moreover, learning can be done in many ways. My kids learn a lot every time they go for a trip. They have so much stimulations when they go to a new place and meet new people. Each time we see them grow smarter (especially my daughter - every time she come back from a trip, her language skills just take another big step forward!). Isn't it so much fun in their learning life?
Parents take a very important role because they are the role model. If they take learning as a painful thing to do, the kids will pick it up. If they enjoy and think it's fun while giving lessons to the kids, the kids will surely enjoy it!
