and up pops three screens/configurations that are greek to me.

I open LR and ran the Quranic Arabic alphabet playlist and there was no sound.

I am just going to download LR to the new laptop and import/export the files from this old laptop to the new one and see if that works.  And I will also put the soundclips higher in the directory just as a precaution. Will let you know what happens.

Dear KL,

I installed LR & LM on the new laptop; exported the files from the old laptop and imported them to the new laptop.  And the sound is still audible in the word file; but not in the playback mode for the Qur'anic Arabic alphabet?   

After reading the How-To on playback settings - I believe I did it correctly:  please see the attached screen shot for my settings.

Eureka!!!    I finally figured it out!!! 

In the playback settings for Picture Flash Mode, I deselected "In Picture Flash Mode, force all picture audio to play pronunciation". 

And it worked - on both laptops!  Yipppeee! 

Okay - back to work with splitting the rest of the soundclips. 

And a million thanks for your patience with me on this.  The girls are very happy to hear Sheikh Muhammad's voice now.

Hi there! 

I have a question please.  If I needed to copy all of the LR Noorani lessons and all corresponding folders (ppt/jpegs/soundclips/etc.) to another computer, and the filepath names change; how will the jpegs/soundclips work in the LR categories/playlists?  Will I have to manually re-select all of the files - which are in the thousands by now?

Hi Ayesha,

There shouldn't be a problem because LR would have copied all the media files you added to your lessons into your LR Media Library, and you can easily transfer all your LR categories and playlists (including the media files attached to each) by exporting those files and copying them to your other computer. You can then import your files into the LR installed in that computer, and you will find that you are not missing any media files.

I'd like to clarify that Little Reader does not "pull" media files (for the lessons you created) from wherever they are saved in your computer; rather it copies each media file and saves it in a Media Library, and this is where it will always get your lessons' media files whenever you play a lesson. If you want you may check your LR Media Library and see if all the media files you've added to your lessons are there:

• If you are still using LR 1.6 (or older), you may access your LR Media Library in your "My Documents \ BrillKids \ Little Reader \ Media Library" folder.
• If you are already using LR 2.0:
   - From your Start menu, go to the "BrillKids" folder
   - Open the "Little Reader" folder
   - Select "Open Media Library"

If you also want to transfer your "source" media files, then you may do so by saving your files onto an external hard drive and then connect and transfer into your other computer.

If you are unsure about doing this, I suggest that you do a "dry run" with a sample of your personalized lessons and see how it works.

I would need some help with getting the audio to work on both LM and LR
Since I installed version 2 of LR and re-installed LM (because I had to re-format my computer) the sound of both of those doesn't work!
Actually, funny thing is, on some slides (in LR) it DOES work (when they are wav or mid files apparently)
But mp3 files DO NOT play --and that is the kind of file that is used most of the time. 
I downloaded and re-installed ffdshow (had already done that before), and enabled everything I could in the codecs section in the 'panel' that opens up when I click on "ffdshow audio decoders" in the start menu...
Next to mp3 is written libavcodec.
I rebooted the computer and programs numerous times; none of this helps!
Any ideas as to what to do next??

Hi PromijeniSvijet,

That's an interesting problem -- since you mentioned you can only play back wav and mid files successfully in LR, can you try playing a few audio files from your LR or LM lessons using another media player like Windows Media Player (or any other player you have installed in your computer)? Please see if your media player/s can play back most audio files (wav, mid, mp3), even the ones that don't play at all in LR. Do let us know how that goes.

After that, kindly try using the Audio Diagnostic Tool and see if it helps fix the sound problem you are experiencing:
 - From your Start menu, go to All Programs
 - Open the "BrillKids" folder
 - Click on the "Support Tools" item
 - In the Support Tools window, go to "Sound Problems?" and run the Audio Diagnostic Tool
 - Once the tool has finished, you may play a sample audio or go back to your BrillKids software to check if the problem was fixed
 - Click on IT WORKS! if your sound problem was fixed, and if not, click on PROBLEM NOT FIXED to continue making system adjustments

If you are still having sound playback problems after the Audio Diagnostic Tool has finished doing all possible adjustments, please let us know. We also request that you attach a Diagnostic Report to your reply so we can troubleshoot further. You may refer to these articles for instructions on how to create Diagnostic Reports for Little Reader and Little Math:

Hi Kezia! Thanks for the advice and suggestions.
I'm not sure how to extract an audio file from a LR or LM cat in order to test it using my Media Player (as you suggested)...
I did experiment a little more with the sounds in the LR though, and here is what I found:
-When I am in the "Advanced Play/Edit" section and try testing a "Picture Audio", if it is a wav or mid or wmv (the files that work), the scroll at the bottom (the one that follows the time elapsed) moves, as it should. When I am testing an mp3 file, and press play, the scroll remains immobile (even though it appears to be in "play mode", as the "pause" icon shows up on the left). If I click further down the line, it either jumps back to the start and is on "pause" (the "play" icon shows up on the left) (this is similar to what happens in other audio players when a file is broken) or it remains immobile where I clicked it (in "play mode", as described above).

-When I try to edit the Picture Audio file, the Easy Voice Recorder opens up (in edit mode), and there, with that program, the mp3 plays just fine!

I tried doing the diagnostic test again, to no avail. The dialogue at the end said the Wizard had tried everything (but it still doesn't work).

So I sent a diagnostic report....

In the meantime, you may access your LR audio files by doing the following:
 - From your Start menu, go to All Programs
 - Go to the "BrillKids" folder, then open the "Little Reader" folder
 - Click on the item named "Open Media Library"

and for LM:
 - Open My Documents
 - Open the "BrillKids" folder, then open the "Little Math" folder
 - Open the "Media Library" folder

Sorry about the late reply

Please try doing the following:

1. Install the K-Lite Codec Pack and see if it helps fix the sound playback problem you are experiencing.

 - Download the K-Lite Codec Pack at: http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/support/K-Lite_710-full_installer.zip  (the file is 13.9 MB)
 - After downloading the file, extract the installer (*.exe) and open it to install this codec pack
 - Note that you do not need to configure any additional settings during the installation process and simply leave the default settings as is (i.e., you may skip the "Select Components" or "Select Additional Tasks" screens)
 - Once you have finished installing the K-Lite Codec Pack, try playing any pronunciation (or picture audio) and see if the playback problem was fixed


If installing the K-Lite Codec Pack doesn't help, please do #2:

2. Do these steps to fix the problem related to an error with your DSP GROUP, INC.audio codec.

 - From your Start menu, click on "Run"
 - In the "Run" window, type in "cmd" in the Open field and click on OK (a black DOS window will open)
 - Copy and paste this  text into the window's prompt: regsvr32 /u "c:\windows\system32\tssoft32.acm"
 - Press Enter, and please take note of any messages that appear (you may either copy the text or take a screenshot and include this in your reply)
 - Next, open Windows Explorer (or open My Computer) and find the "tssoft32.acm" file by navigating to the this path: C:\ WINDOWS \ system32 \ tssoft32.acm
 - Rename this file to "tssoft32.back.acm"
 - After doing this, open Little Reader and try playing back any pronunciation (or picture audio) and see if the playback problem was fixed


I hope this helps! If you are still having problems, do let us know, and tell us what happened after doing our suggestions above (including any error messages), and send us a new Diagnostic Report.

As an alternative to sending your Diagnostic Report from your Little Reader's Support Tools window, you may simply attach the file when you reply here. You will find your Diagnostic Report file in your "My Documents \ BrillKids \ Tools" folder.
