Hi babymum!
Since you can't open your BrillKids programs to create the backup files, you can try looking for the programs' "Data" folders and copy those as your backup instead.
To find the data folders:
1. Open "Computer" (or "My Computer") and go to C:\
2. Copy-paste one of these paths in the Windows Explorer window's address bar, then press ENTER on your keyboard:
For Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BrillKidsFor Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1:
C:\ProgramData\BrillKidsInside that "BrillKids" folder you should see some subfolders, including folders named Little Reader, Little Math and/or Little Musician (depending on which BrillKids programs are installed in your computer).
3. Select all the subfolders and files inside that folder, or select the entire "BrillKids" folder, then copy the files onto your external hard disk as a backup.
4. Once you've reinstalled LR / LMh / LMs on another computer, you can quickly restore your personal files by opening the same Application Data or ProgramData folder in your other computer, then copy and replace the corresponding LR / LMh / LMs folders with the ones from your backup.
**Note that some of the folders mentioned in Step 2 are
hidden by default (e.g., "ProgramData" folder).
If you can't find one of the Data folders, you need to un-hide all hidden files and folders by doing these steps:
For Windows XP:
- Open "My Computer" and from the menu bar, click on "Tools" then choose "Folder Options..."
- In the Folder Options window, go to the "View" tab
- In the Advanced Settings box, select "Show hidden files and folders"
- Click Apply, then click OK
For Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1:
- Open "Computer" then click "Organize" (upper left part of window) and choose "Folder and Search Options"
- In the Folder Options window, go to the "View" tab
- In the Advanced Settings box, select the option "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"
- Click Apply, then click OK
I hope this helps!
