Hi, We at Jones Geniuses are often ask question about Domans & whether to combine with our program, here is
Dr Jones reply :
The Matrix Math is an improvement upon Doman's Dot Math.  I have studied Doman's programs intensively, taken workshops with the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential (Doman's outfit in Philadelphia).  I know his strengths and weaknesses. 
Here they are: 

Doman was the pioneer in early learning for which we owe him a great debt.  However, once you get beyond presenting one bit of information at a time his methods are not very good.  He does not prioritize his objectives.  For example, memorizing random patterns for the numbers is far less useful than the Matrix Math method of memorizing a pattern of dots that forms the digit when the dots are connected. Learning to recognize the "Water Lillies" painting by Manet is far less important than recognizing the letters and their sounds.  In Threshold to Reading we use animals twisted into the shape of the letters to teach their sounds.  These mnemonic devices work quickly and effectively even for very young children in learning the key skills of reading and mathematics, rather than stockpiling endless bits of data on birds, insects, paintings, etc. that do little to unlock the gates to the great universe of knowledge.

Perhaps most important, Doman falls down badly in the department of building a suggestive norm of high achievement, the major causal factor in success.  In other words, students will rise to the level of expectations if they have competent materials, teaching, and pace of learning.  Doman says things like "It is all over by age 5" and "Adults are mentally retarded compared to children."  These are demonstrably false statements and are demeaning to the human ability to learn and to teach.  After all, your child will hit the 5 year mark at some point in the near future.  I once had a mother at one of his seminars confide to me, after hearing such statements, that we were doing math next and she was afraid she wouldn't understand it.  We were teaching children how to count to ten!  That is the power of suggestion for good or ill.
