Our first daughter, at six months would point to or grab the correct card. Around a year she started to tell us in words what was on the card. Even our little one at three months will stare intently at the correct card when asked.
If they're watching while you are flashing, their tiny little sponge brains are taking it in!

We test,but it's a game for us!
For body parts, I ask were is Lily's ________, Mommy's ________, Violet's (her baby sister) ________, and she points and repeats the part. We do this with bones and some organs too.
We have a large bucket of plastic animals. I take out the animal and ask her what it is and she tells me or I will ask her to find a certain one and she does.
We do this type of activity with many of our subjects and Lily, at 16 months, loves it!

Wow! Of course parenting is not "about" flashcards - Babies and children are certainly meant to learn and explore. However, I'm sure most of the members of this site are wise enough to know that they need to follow their child's lead. If the material is not interesting and fun fir them, they don't force it and they move on!

My eldest (16m) loves to help teach the youngest (3m). I show my oldest a flash card, then she holds it up for her sister to see. She often tell her what it is and I repeat it more clearly. She also likes to play the body part game - I say "Lily, where is Violet's _____?" and she points to and repeats the body part. We do this type of tandem learning with many things.
I do, however, try to slip in a bit of one-on-one with each of them every day.
Good luck! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
