We've just made it easy for everyone to work together to create bigger and better Little Reader lesson files! happy

We at BrillKids have always been big on the concept of COMMUNITY, and what better way to promote the spirit of working together than through COLLABORATIONS IN MAKING GREAT LITTLE READER LESSONS?

We understand that some of you may not have the resources or technical know-how to create Little Reader files which match our criteria for Premium Content, and this is the main reason why we are opening the COLLABORATION BOARD, so you can ask for help from other members to create your Little Reader files!

yes And don't think that helping is a thankless job! We have created a way for you to share the points with your collaborators so that once your Little Reader file gets approved into premium status, points will be divided among you!

Although there can only be one author credited with the file (usually that person will be the one who came up with the idea of the lesson in the first place) points will be split up among the people who have helped in contributing to the creation of the file! You can even set the percentage division of the points as you please!

So here's how you can work together:

1. Post a notice in this board asking people what type of service you need to create your Little Reader file.

This will serve as an advertisement to let people know what kind of help you will need.

You can also post an announcement here to let people know what kind of help you can offer.

For example, if you're really good at editing pictures, you can post about your readiness to collaborate by contributing pictures. Or, if you're well-versed in recording and editing sound files, you can let people know how you can help by saying that you're willing to contribute pronunciations and picture audio.

2. Communicate to each other through this board or via PM.

When it comes to the nitty-gritty of sharing your lesson plans, you can communicate either by creating new threads in this board or via PM, whatever way you feel comfortable with.

3. Create the Little Reader File.

Once you and your collaborators have enough media to put together your lesson, all the media content gets sent to the author (usually via email or posting here as attachments.) The author then puts everything together into one great Little Reader category or playlist file.

4. Upload this file to the Forum.

The author then uploads the file to the forum, in pretty much the usual way you add a download.  Go through the whole process. Before the process is over, precisely after uploading the file, you will encounter a new screen which looks like this:

This is where the author splits up the percentage of points and adds in the usernames of her collaborators.

And that's it! happy Once the file hits the 100-download mark and gets approved into premium status, the points will be split among the people who have contributed to the creation of the file, according to the percentage split-up defined by the author!

We hope this makes it easier for all of you to work together to make better Little Reader files, but even more so, we hope this is a way for all of you to make new friends and get to know each other through the process of working together.

As always, happy teaching!

Lappy

I've got some idea to prepare some files in different languages (italian, polish, french, spanish, german, english) but I have to ask help with registration of pronunciation  laugh
I'd like to create a very  big multilingual dictionary with seroius word (botanic, animals, parts of human body, parts of car, train, airplane, math, geometry) then when my son will need them they'll be waiting smile something like Doman cd's dictionary
what do you think about?

andylixia,

You can do it a couple of ways. In your profile there is an option that says "Add a Download" and it there is going to be different options you need to choose (each option shows one by one once you have pick a selection):

- File Type: In this case power point slideshows
- Foreign Language: Chinese (in this case choose if it is simplified of traditional)
- Description: here you can include info about the file like what the file has, if it has pronunciation, pictures, etc...
- Then attach the file
- You are done! laugh

You can also go to "Free Downloads" in the bar at the top of the page then click on "power point slideshows". Once you are there click on "add download"

Since it looks you will be sharing files in chinese, I think you would like to read this thread

Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks!  biggrin

That's a great idea. I for one, would like to create Spanish words within the lessons, as my son is fully bilingual and isn't 2 yet. It would be great to expose both my kids to more languages, which I don't know. Any takers?

I have the same question as Bella, I love the new curiculum and would like the same thing just in another language.  I am proficient in French, Spanish and Latin but not a native speaker.  I could create the files for my son, but would so much rather him hear a native speaker.  It would be great if native speakers could just use the preset curriculum and upload the alternative languages as opposed to making whole new presentations.  Is there a way they would do this and just not get full credit for the download?

Sorry, folks, but it will have to be original content, and not BrillKids content as we WILL be coming out with language content later and this would conflict with that.

However, you may wish to work for us on such translations, see here:

Does anyone know how to create Flash files or edit video for LR? I am wondering if there are any specs as far as size, length, etc. Any input appreciated.

Those can be 2 very different things.  A flash file typically refers to flash animation, like the baby animation we use in the Action Words categories.  That requires animation skills and is not very easy.

What's much easier is to shoot a video using your camcorder, then EDITING the video using any video editing software, and then SAVING the final file in .swf or .flv format which are flash formats (we recommend .swf).  You could also save them in other formats like mpg, mp4, wmv.

There are many video editing software out there, including Windows Movie Maker which comes free with most Windows.  It will save the video in .wmv initially, which you can try using directly in LR if not too big in size.  Or just find a free video converter (tons out there) to convert into swf.

As for recommended length and sizes, we recommend video lengths of about 2-5 seconds, and to try to keep each video file under 1Mb.

What all languages are you considering for translation?
Is hindi one of them?
